This Quadrupel Oak Aged has a deep-bronze colour topped with an amber head. Its aroma is defined by mixed wood and honey notes. These are followed by vinous flavours with a lingering port- or sherry-like scent.
The taste is quite smooth and full. For a Quadrupel this batch is rather dry and well-rounded as a result of a long maturing period in oak or acacia barrels. A two-year aging period is sufficient even if the full taste of this batch, if properly stored, warrants a good couple of years of enjoyability. Besides the effects exerted by red wine and brandy barrels, this Oak Aged also underwent Oloroso influences. The hop taste has all but vanished, but wood and wine tannins have left an agreeable bitter flavour.

Bottle thanks to Benzai, shared at Bruces. It pours hazy deep brown with a tiny beige head. The nose is rich, fruit cake, raisin, spice, toasty coconut, brandy, fudge, juicy, wood and earth. The taste is smooth, toffee, vanilla, toasty coconut, honeyed fruits, fruit cake, brandy, wood, almond, banana bread, warming alcohol and a touch of spice with a warming finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Nice depth and well rounded. Very nice indeed.

Bottle at Olutexpo 2014, Helsinki. Colour is clear dark orange with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Dark fruits, raisins, plums, dry fruits, dryness, Belgian yeast and malts. Very nice.

Flesje uit Bierparadijs, Meer net over de grens in België, ben altijd weg geweest van de Quadrupels van La Trappe, ben benieuwd naar deze. schenkt als mooi rood/bruin met minimale witte kraag. aroma is gewoonweg héérlijk (hout, honing, wijn, port, floraal, banaan, deeg, moutig, zoet, vanille, hoe complex wil je het hebben ) smaken zijn goed fruitig, banaan, pruim, rozijn, vanille, vanille, redelijk zoet, licht bitter, zacht, port en honing, vol van body, enig aandachtspuntje dat het iets dikker qua mondgevoel had gemogen, maar verder super lekker bier !!!

Batch 16, Bottle at home, Red/Brown beer with a small head, aroma is honey, wood, wine, brandy. Taste is a bit sweet, brandy, wine, bit boozy. Very nice beer.

Bottle from Het Brouwcafe, Scheveningen. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is rich toffee caramel toasty oak butter alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich sweet malt, boozy alcohol fruit palate and a sweet bitter finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Another amazing beer in the series.

(Bottle, 0.375 l - BB 02-2039, at One Pint Pub, courtesy of Kiiski, 20140727) The beer poured ruby red and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had vanilla, red wine, port wine and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied, dry and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were vineousness, red wine, wood, sweetness, vanilla and low bitterness. Aftertaste had vineousness, wood and booze. The barrels used had drowned the beer almost completetely. Not a good thing.

375 cl. bottle sampled @ Barley Legal Tasting Room. Dark murky reddish brown, far darker than base with little tanned head. Nose is pure sweet vanilla oak, very thick & sweet, caramel, concentrated sugar, thinking bourbon sweetness here even though it is probably brandy that I am picking up on. Lots of barrel here, nothing but vanilla oak, crazily thick, sweet, sugar, maple, caramel, sticky fruit syrup, liquid cane sugar, light tannins & very faint very tannin rich wine in the back. Sticky, lower carb. Awesome, one of the best ones, best one in a long time.

Thnx to ships Pours orange brown , no real head . Smell is very sweet , fruity , oak , vanilla . Good carbo . Taste is one of the best la trappes i had , if not the best . Wood , brandy , vanilla . Bit boozy , sweet , very much feels like a liquor instead of a beer , but has got the body and the mouthfeel of a beer . . . Very nice

Many thanks to Finn for a 375ml bottle of this one, topped with a cork wire cradle. Pours a hazy orange-red coloured body under a low off-white head with lots of bubbles. Nice lacework down the glassware. Aromas of prunes, red berries and oak vanilla. Comprehensive flavours of dried fruits, like raisins and prunes, offset by mid-tart berries and added by a touch of old books. Oak dry, bittersweet ending, with warming alcohol, that’s lingers for quite a while. Full bodied. Tasty sipper that lasted for the whole match between the Netherlands and Costa Rica (at home watching World Cup football on TV, Tromsø 05.07.2014).

Draft - Vanilla, caramel, bourbon and barrel notes. Cloudy brown with a beige head. Big woody bourbon notes, booze and and some esters. Nice, but not as nice as the other versions.
