Anvil ESB is our interpretation of a traditional British-style pub ale. Deep amber in color, a toasty character from British malts and a touch of kettle caramelization blend seamlessly with a mild English hop profile. Its delicate balance of flavors will keep you coming back pint after pint, making it a complex creation we’re proud to call our flagship beer.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a collapsing light tan head. Mild lemonish to citrusy aroma with a mild sweet touch. Light spiced and towards light liqourice note. Mild fruity hoppy and a mild sweetness coming through. Bitter and slight acidic finish. Nice and refreshing.

Sample at San Diego Brewing Company. This beer is a clear bright amber color with a medium thin off-white that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma is malty with some fruit and hops in the background. Medium body with equal parts malt and hops flavor. Spice and fruit notes as well. The finish is sweet malt at first with mild hops left over. Not bad overall. but I expected more from Alesmith.

Draught Mango-coloured head (big), over reddish-brown with a purple shine. Nutty aroma’s, even +/- buttery, maybe some banana ester. Sweet, again nutty & buttery. Very fine backthroat bitterness. Well bodied, very clean and smooth; creamy texture. Quite discreet for a W.C. beer, even in imitation of a UK style; drinkability is very good, and it appears quite nourishing.

Deep amber/copper coloured body with a nice tan head and a few small bubbles that constantly rise from the bottom. Aroma of nice malt, toffee, fresh english hops, caster sugar and a light apricot freshness. Medium-bodied; Good engligh hops up front that fade very quickly until there is nothing left at all except for a bit of malt. Some sugars and toffee noticeable, but once again - fade very quickly. Aftertaste is very bland and in fact pretty dissapointing. Overall, this one looks good, but the taste and palate simply aren’t up to par. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from a small liquor shop next to Hodad’s in Ocean Beach, San Diego, California on 04-December-2005.

22oz bottle-pours a big foamy to rocky light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet pine/slight metallic hops, secondary medium malt-caramel. Taste is slightly sweet pine/slight metallic hops, secondary medium malt-caramel/husky (specialty malt-English?), clean. Medium body. OK/mild carbonation. Thanks to Stevo for sharing.

The bomber pours clear copper with gold edges and nice lasting tan head along with sheet lacing. The aroma is mild with roasty malts along with some vague hops. The taste has mild spice hop bitterness, faint pine hops mixed with semi sweet malts, mild roasted malts and just a bit of malt astringency. Seems like a nice sessionable ESB with a decent body for the style. It leaves a mild roastiness behind in the after taste.

Served in a dimpled Pilsner glass, cause that is the only thing I had around at the time. Aroma is bready malts and lemonny hops. Some cinnamon too. Color is a slightly hazy light amber-brown. Lacing was excellent; the glass was a history of every sip taken. Inital flavor is a touch salty and then lightly sour at the finish. After taste is a bit prunny. Light to medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Mighty refreshing!
