Anvil ESB is our interpretation of a traditional British-style pub ale. Deep amber in color, a toasty character from British malts and a touch of kettle caramelization blend seamlessly with a mild English hop profile. Its delicate balance of flavors will keep you coming back pint after pint, making it a complex creation we’re proud to call our flagship beer.

650 ml. bottle sampled @ Barley Legal Tasting Room. Thanks! Kraddel. Faint reddish chestnut wood brown, med. tanned head. Smells watery, lightly oxidized, feels old (there is no date on the bottle), nuts, old pine resin hops, herbal hops. Watery taste, oxidation, nutty, old resin hops, mild herbal hop bitterness in the back, chestnuts, old furniture, dried flowers,… I feel like I keep getting old bottles by this brewery but they are never dated so the brewery must think that they are still good to drink. Either way, I do not get at all the high scores that this brewery gets.

6 fl. oz, William K, kurvi. Deep brown, thick light brown head. Yeasty, with chocolate, malt, caramel in aroma. flavor has toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and milk chocolate. Sweet, long finish. Medium bodied. Not very ESB like, but drinkable anyhow.

Tap. Pours clear deep amber, small creamy tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is bready, seven up. Flavor is odd, lots of black teas, root beer? Light sweet, light bitter. Lightish body. Not getting the fascination.

Bottle at Beer Hunters. Clear ruby color, good beige head. Aroma has spiceyness and berries. Medium-bodied, lots of carbonation. Berries, wood, nuts in the flavor. Not the most traditional Esb. Perharps not so fresh.

Split a bottle with friends. Poured a relatively clear, dark amber color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was notes of sweet caramel notes, nice toffee, dark fruits. Flavor was nice, dried dark fruits, some notes of caramel, light sweetness. Nice light earthy hop taste. Pretty darn drinkable.

Bottle sampled at a tasting event. From notes. Caramel and grains with some roasty toasty malt. Not bad.

22oz bottle. Unfiltered looking hazy orange-red. Big off-white head, foamy, soapy. Fruity, malty aroma..pretty true to style. Caramel, crystal, amber malts. Relatively well balanced and a touch closer to English than most US versions. Leans a little too much into the Amber malt..you could call it an Amber and no one would blink an eye. OK, probably not one I’d buy again.
