Irish red ales? Yes, we know. Sweet, a bit cloying and, well, no thanks. So, it was brave of us (we say bravely) to put the words “red ale” after our own moniker. Why the hell would we do that? Because this is a real red ale, an ale to conjure with that happens to be reddish in colour. More importantly, it’s exuberantly, joyfully fruity with a bit of malty caramel.

Brown/dark reddish color with a light beige head with medium retention and moderate lacework. Aroma has notes of toasted malts with some dry fruits. Flavor with eartthy notes, some caramelish and dry fruits, toasted malts as well. Slightly caramelish and bittery final.

Clear amber color with big head. Aroma of caramel malts, toffee, a bit berries. Taste is dry, very dry, bitter caramel, a bit nutty. Carbonation is rather high for a classic ale. I like Red Ales and I like dry stuff, but this one?s a bit too dry for a red ale balance. Pleasant aftertaste though.

On tap at The Porterhouse, pours a clear copper orange with a creamy beige head. Nose and flavour are very very restrained, with light dry bready malt and toffee. Not much to this, but the palate is creamy and silky. Decent enough for what it is.

33 cl. bottle. Clear, copper colour with a fluffy, off-white head. Sweet aroma with toasted malts, fruits, caramel, chocolate, nuts and grasses. Faint citrus. Taste is lightly bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and an average carbonation. Finishes dry and slightly bitter with toasted malts, fruits and subtle liquorice. Nice Irish.

330 ml bottle.(4.2% ABV) Pours a clear reddish amber with a creamy, medium head that laces. Sweet fruity aroma with roasted malt and caramel. Sweet malty flavour with caramel, fruit, a hint of tea and a dry, bitter, grassy finish. Light to medium body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation.

Bottle thanks to Stuu666. Appearance - lovely amber with a nice lacy head. Nose - burnt toffee and honeycomb. Taste - more burnt toffee, Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - solid

330ml bottle. Clear, reddish brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Grassy, hoppy aroma, hints of hay, freshly cleaned hutch, rabbit droppings, malty basis has an earthy touch of decayed bark. Taste is dry grainy, bready, crispbread, rye, cellar-related associations of cobweb, plastering, and mildew.
