Irish red ales? Yes, we know. Sweet, a bit cloying and, well, no thanks. So, it was brave of us (we say bravely) to put the words “red ale” after our own moniker. Why the hell would we do that? Because this is a real red ale, an ale to conjure with that happens to be reddish in colour. More importantly, it’s exuberantly, joyfully fruity with a bit of malty caramel.

Bottle from Beer Store Vienna. Clear amber red color with small white head. Caramel malt in aroma with fruity notes. Caramel, burned sugar in taste together with fruity notes, light hoppy bitterness in finish. OK.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. Pours an amber red colour with a small off white head. Vague aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Rather thin, some malty sweetness, overall rather bland and disappointing.

Dec. ’13. A 0.5 l bottle at Dva Tona Bar, Split, as Porterhouse Dublin Red Ale. Poured clear orange-red body with big creamy nitrohead atop. Caramel malt aroma, quite fine and not killed with foam. Touch of spices and wood as well. Flavor was lightly bitter herbal, somewhat spicy (peppery) and caramel malty to lesser extent. Medium bodied. Finish was rather long, bitterish and pleasant with that caramel counterbalance. Very good Irish ale, I really enjoyed it while most of these leave me indifferent

In Belgrade at a private tasting event. Pours a reddish clear color, little foam. Nose of funky malts and a bit of caramel. Mouth: typical malty British ale with little bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smell of vanilla. Red golden colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of vanilla, metal, hop. Mildly bitter, medium sweet. Watery texture, light body. Very flat carbon.

On Tap. Smooth in the beginning, caramel with hints of sweetness and a nice bitter aroma. The mainpart is caramel with a nice bitter-grainy aroma, slightly "red", smooth. For a Red Ale lots of aroma, nice and easy to drink with a nice floral-hoppy deepness. 10/12/10/11

Drought. Reddish amber with creamy large beige head, sugary cinnamon aroma, low carbonatoon, a bit flat and weak taste, abrupt finish. Disappointing to taste considering the way it looks,

As Dublin Red, on tap at Dva Tona Bar, Split. Darker amber body. Off white "nitroish" head. Weak malty nose, notes of peach and maaaybe caramel. Quite smooth (no surprise there) malty taste. Caramel, simple maltiness, some woody notes. Quite light bitterness. Not entirely bad, the point of this style still eludes me, but hey, simple, pleasant, maybe would work as a gateway beer, and, unlike so many beers of its kind, have a point like that.

Sampled draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Pours dark amber with a creamy & milky off-white head. Nose has an interesting touch of mint, floral with some Chinese medicinal herbs. Taste it touch mint, iron (which is also a note I got in their Hop head beer, interesting), grass, grains, lightly sweetish, metals & faint Chinese herbs. Touch watery mouth feel, not very exiting but manageable & okay brew.
