STEENBRUGGE Tripel abbey beer is a golden-blond beer with a rounded malt character, a scented touch of hops, a warm, full flavour and a fruity, lightly smoked yeast aroma combined with the subtle Bruges “gruut” blend of herbs and spices.

Pours deep gold into a tulip Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving slower sheets. Tropical fruit, candi and yeast aromas. Sweetly spiced tropical fruits upfront turning dry and cloyingly sweet in the hot, lasting candi finish.

Had this at the Pittsburgh Great European Beer Festival at the Sharp Edge Beer Emporium 6/2010. Hazy pale lager eye. Typical strong clean belgy aromas. Rather strong initial flavors yet well behaved and refined. Hides alky content well I guess for an 8%. Decent anmount of CO2. Rubbery at times, same on finish.

Small white head. Hazy deep yellow body with carbonation. Tropical fruity alcoholic spicy herbal aroma, very harmonic, with mealy notes. Dry-sweet tropical fruit, pepper, and cardamom spice taste with herbal notes. Warm, fizzy mouthfeel. Light body. Dry mealy herbal aftertaste with alcohol notes. Nice, harmonic, drinkable. Pours a light orange gold with a decent foamy white head. Aromas of pale fruits and Belgian yeast/spice. Near full body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is quite fruity, spicey and not very sweet. It tends to develop a fresh fruitiness with time. Excellent.

330 ml bottle. Golden with a big foamy white head. Aroma is spicy and sweet like candyfloss. Flavor is light malty, light spicy, a bit fruity, some warming alcohol and a sticky sweet finish. The sweetness is dominating and the rest of the beer is pretty one dimensional. Still drinkable in smaller amounts.

Bottle, at Cardinal. It pours an almost clear, orange-golden head under a diminishing off-white head leaving lacings. Fruity nose with white sugar, some spices and a little alcohol. The flavor has a pronounced grainy flavor as well as fruits and white sugar. Some alcohol gives a little warmth, and it finishes sugary sweet and spiced. Dry, still sweetish mouthfeel, with a touch of something like chewing on wet cheap cardboard. A decent one, nothing more. I’d rather drink its weaker brother Blond. 090728

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Orange gold, with thin white head. Very moderate aroma. Some tripel style fruit in the mouth. Some tropical fruit. Quite muted but smooth and not offensive in any way, but needs a bit more character maybe. Drank it pretty quickly though so I must have liked it.
