Our style of brewing has always been about taking chances. It’s an extension of our “What if” mentality, wherein we ask ourselves what would happen if we did things differently in the brewhouse, such as fermenting with a different strain of yeast or, in the case of this beer, incorporating whole-leaf green tea imported from Japan. The answer, embodied in this IPA when we first released it in 2011, was something truly magnificent, delicious and well worth brewing again. But what if we changed it up a bit? This time around, we exchanged Pacifica hops from New Zealand for Helga hops from Australia. The result is an IPA that’s as bright, herbaceous and bitingly hoppy as the one that’s had our fans requesting its return ever since its depletion from store shelves, but with a modern, hop-driven twist that makes this second draft unique and tasty in its own right.

22 oz bottle (2015 release, 10.1% ABV) poured into a Hitachino Nest tulip. Slightly smudged Enjoy By date, 4/2/2015 I believe. Clear golden orange with a finger of off-white head. Aromas of powdered green tea, green tea leaves, light floral notes, citrus. Tastes of tropical fruit, citrus, light floral notes, mango, slight alcohol, fresh green tea leaves. Medium body with a dry finish. Juicy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Pretty tasty.

Avenue Pub, New Orleans tap: pours hazy orange yellow with a white head. Aroma is juicy grapefruit, hints of tea, and more citrus. Taste is green tea powder at the front and then goes into some of the most juicy grapefruit larter into it. It ain’t bitter, but it is extremely flavorful. Good.

35,5 cl bottle vintage 2011. Rated on 04.09.2012
Aroma is stale and fruity with hops and some green tea. Flavour has fruity hops, mango, apricot and some green tea in the finish. Interesting, I thought this would be more green tea and less IPA. A bit old bottle but hops were still in good condition. Nice.

Bottle @ RBESG 2011 Grand Tasting at Dean Swift. Good hop aroma. Hoppy as hell but with a really good perfumed flavour. Good flavours. Good hops on end. One of the beers of the day.

Bottle thanks to Leighton at his pre-xmas extravaganza. It pours cloudy orange, with a thick off-white head. The nose is tangy orange fruit, pine and a faint hint of green tea. The taste is pine, resin, powdered matcha tea, tangy orange fruit (particularly mango), spice, resin and alcohol warmth, with a bitter-citric finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. An interesting and tasty brew.

Bottle at home in London. Lightly haY gold pour, white foam. Big piney citrus hop aroma. Strong sweet flavor, some caramel, toast, dark sugars, light grass and wood. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, slightly sticky, some resinous hops, caramel, faint tea, pine. Good beer.

Cloudy tan. There was a lot of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is fruity, hoppy with light green tea and some vanilla - this comes together nicely on the nose. Expressive fruity character. Lots of tea, blends ok with the hops. The tannins add to the total bitterness. The malts are still chewy Stone, but they are understated. Definitely one of the better Stone brews.

Shared 12oz bottle. Poured a golden yellow color with a lot of sediment floating in there. Aroma is standard hoppy india pale ale, hops, not a lot green tea aroma. Flavor is hoppy but the green tea is pretty much hidden here. Still a good brew.
