Our style of brewing has always been about taking chances. It’s an extension of our “What if” mentality, wherein we ask ourselves what would happen if we did things differently in the brewhouse, such as fermenting with a different strain of yeast or, in the case of this beer, incorporating whole-leaf green tea imported from Japan. The answer, embodied in this IPA when we first released it in 2011, was something truly magnificent, delicious and well worth brewing again. But what if we changed it up a bit? This time around, we exchanged Pacifica hops from New Zealand for Helga hops from Australia. The result is an IPA that’s as bright, herbaceous and bitingly hoppy as the one that’s had our fans requesting its return ever since its depletion from store shelves, but with a modern, hop-driven twist that makes this second draft unique and tasty in its own right.

Bottle @ RBESG 2011 Grand Tasting at Dean Swift, Tower Bridge SE1. Pours a yellow color with a small white head. Has a fruity hoppy spicy citrus aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter finish.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color ale with a great large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of strong floral hops is dominant and very enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by strong floral hoppy notes with light bitterness level and a bready malt backbone that is quite solid. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Very well brewed and very interesting to drink though I can’t say the tea really made much of a difference atste-wise.

From the 11/2011 3R6P tasting. +++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very murky apricot color with a trace white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was tart orange, lemon, bread and kiwi. The flavor was bitter with tangy and sour nut, peach pits, citrus, tea and pepper. The finish was incredibly long and very bitter with sourdough bread and pepper notes. Fairly full bodied. Odd.

Outstanding. One of the best IPAs I’ve encountered. Pours a nice, hazy, golden-orange, almost peach color with a nice mid-sized head. Strong grassy, hop aroma. Flavor has a nice bitterness, with citrus and strong pine-hop flavors showing through.Very fruity. Nice smooth finish to it. One of the best collaborations from Stone and among their best IPAs in general.

Dean Swift - RBESG Tasting. Clear gold beer, residual white head. Light hoppy nose. Light semi crisp palate. Mild but rich hops, grassy with some marmalade. A little creamy malt with a touch of green tea. Finishes semi dry with a mildly bitter aftertaste. Interesting - I want a whole bottle to myself.

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Grapefruit and light pine aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor with light tea. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine lingers with light tea and some light frutiiness.

Dicht hopfiger Antrunk mit Gemüsenoten. Der Tee wirkt auch darüber hinaus interessant und überraschend voll, wenig trocken, erstaunlich wenig Alkohol. Dann karamellmalzig mit einer knackigen, gut versteckten Bitterkeit. 12/11/12/11//12

Draught @ Moeder Lambic during the Stone vs Moeder Lambic event. Golden yellow colour with a white head. Smells quite awesome. Nice and hoppy. Tastes hoppy and citrus. Quite good, i liked it. Great carbo, medium body.

Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas during the three day Stone Event, 16-18 september 2011. Slightly hazy yellow color, vast creamy white head. Smell fresh, indeed green tea, hops and bitter. Taste green tea as well (very nicely done!), bitter and hops. You don’t taste the 9,2%ABV. Good carbo, full body.
