Tap at Moeder Lambic. Very tropical, mango and grapefruit aroma, pine too maybe. Taste is good. Little bit of body to it. Not so bitter, almost a little sweet. Nice. Low carbonation.

Draft @ the brewery. Pours a glowing gold, good white head. Aroma showcases a good, fresh, fruity hop profile. Taste is similarly fresh, hoppy, not overly fruity with everything held in balance and a perfect bitter finish. Sometimes, in a craft beer world of hazy, fruit-laden, murk-bombs, you yearn for a measured, confident, mature IPA like this.

15/I/16 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ Claudia's serrefeestje - BB: n/a (2016-33)

Little cloudy blond beer, creamy irregular off-white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of tropical fruits, lychee, mango, grapefruit, pineapple. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity start, pineapple, lychee, lots of passion fruits, grapefruit, pretty bitter, sweet caramel malts. Aftertaste: citrus, bitter, fruity, very nice beer!

Bouteille(Merci, le professeur!): deep golden, a bit unclear, small and stable creamy white head; exotic fruits and traces of cough-syrup in the drier bitter-malty nose; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, not very soft; lingering poney and fruity-exotic finish, hops stickin’ to the tongue. Quelle surprise!!! Quelle surprise…

My first Christmas beer of the season is from the highly regarded La Brasserie du Mont Saleve in France. Their Biere de Noël is a 7.2% hoppy pale ale (IPA?). I got it on sale at Cave a Bulles in Paris and just noticed the best before date was 5 days ago so figured I should crack it open. It looks beautiful, a lightly opaque honey gold with a light beige head that leaves a soapy type of belgian lace behind. The nose is fantastic, huge pine with mild spice & sweet malt notes. While it is pine it is the full spectrum of pineyness: earthy, woodsy, bright green pine needles, etc. For something brewed last year it’s held up very well. Med-full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is unexpectedly sweet, fruity & Rich with a mild hop bite in the finish. Candied fruit, fruitcake, marmalade & ashey, earthy pine. Good but I suspect it’d be even better fresh. It’s also an unexpected style for a Christmas beer. I hope to try more Mont Saleve again in the future.

Draught Fluffy white head, very persistent over faintly hazy orange beer. Huge wave of fruity, citrussy hops/-oils, fresh hopcones, bit of ureum, straw. Light, but intense flavourprofile of dry, lightly cheesy hops, straw, dry leaves. Background has some faint sweetish cakey notes, banana. Light body, oily slickness. Bit flat MF. Another excellent, deceptively light appearing beer by Mont Salève. Phenomenal brewery, certainly for France.

bottle from Bièrerie Illkirch-Graffenstaden. Golden colour, with a white head. Intensive, unbelievable aroma of passion fruit. Good malty base, and more hops with passion fruit flavours coming through, even dominating the flavour. Delicious!
