There is so much fun involved in creating Dark Horizon. Once it ferments, everyone in the brewery are very enthusiastic and pay close attention. Is the yeast still active? Is everything OK? How does the flavours evolve? Dark Horizon is normally dark and velvety. Muscovado sugars provides good fruity aromas. The coffee is a chapter on its own. The green beans will first be treated alfa amylase, an enzyme brewers enjoy working with. Then we mash the green beans before drying and roasting them. This gives it the unique flavor Dark Horizon deserves. Share Dark Horizon with someone you think deserves it.

Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok on the tap takeover/meet the brewer evening. Poured a deep mahogany with a round tan head. The aroma is big rich liqourice and molasses. The aroma is strong bitter light sweet with a rich alcoholic malt sweet chocolate palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. An experience indeed!

From a 250ml bottle on 24/5/2014 (batch number 857/858). Pours close to black with a tiny deep tan head. The aroma is fruity and boozy with subtle chocolate notes. Flavour wise this is a powerhouse - sweet dark fruit (prunes, dates cherries), milk and dark chocolate, roasty espresso, nuts, vanilla, a touch of soy and some warming alcohol. Damn this is complex in the mouth - very sweet and dessert like, but with lots of good counterbalancing dry, roasty hop bitterness. Chocolate is the dominating feature but there’s a whole lot more going on as well. Has a thick, rich, velvety palate and modest carbonation. You know you’re not drinking a light beer but it drinks surprising easily for 16%. This is a fantastic sweet impy.

Svart med brun skum. Kakao, mørk sjokolade, espresso og mørke stenfrukter. Lakris, halslinser, kakao og kaffe. Kjenner også noe sødme. Salt i ettersmaken, lite kullsyre. Kraftige greier. Må passe godt til en fondant med friske bringebær. Men fantastisk å nippe til uten mat også.

Bottle: First off, I am sincerely grateful this was nothing like the 3rd Edition. What a mess. Very dark pour with a minimal brown head. Fruity nose, coffee, lightly earthy, and modest roast. Hard to imagine this was brewed with green beans… never would have fathomed this. Another powerful ABV and sugary brew, but this works. Good sweetness to roast/char ratio. A good sipper.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet dark chocolate and hot vanilla aromas. Thick with soy, licorice and burning hot chocolate. Lasting bitter espresso and alcohol finish.
