Draft. A pitch black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt, combined with notes of soy sauce, chocolate, and sweet malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt as well as lighter notes of coffee and tobacco, leading to a dry and rather bitter finish.

On tap. Pours black and opaque with a creamy light brown head. Hard roasted coffeeish aroma - sweet though. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel, hard roasted malts and licorice notes with an ashy edge. Has a light malt bitterness in the finish. 090709

From tap at the brewpub. Pours pitch black and with a creamy tan head. Dark roasted malt and dark chocolate aroma. Medium dry flavoured. Creamy mouthfeel yet also light. Dry roasted, smooth dark malt flavoured. Mild acidic and roasted note coming through into the finish, smoothly declining.

Draft at a restaurant in San Francisco. Comes to me beautifully black with a thick dark brown chocolate head. All black no light at all, looks like a great dessert. The aroma is bittered chocolate with some sweet cake like bread. Really cool aroma. The flavor was more light on the chocolate character but more just watery dark malts with some malt sweetness and a nice bitter touch at the end of the flavor. As it warms a little bit of a smoke character emerges. It is very easy drinking.
