Around the brewery, we listen to a lot of reggae, drink a fair share of coffee, and are devoted to our barrel aging program. In 2015, we had a one off imperial stout aging in barrels for close to a year. These barrels had a rich chocolate vanilla character, but needed a boost. Stauf’s Coffee Roasters, of Columbus Ohio, nailed the perfect roast on some authentic Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, to compliment the barrel aged stout. Champion Ground was born! The Illustration on the label is of Charlie Ace’s Swing-a-ling mobile record shack which was notorious for broadcasting the “Champion Sound!” Our version does this with fresh grounds and good vibes all around!

Chalumeaux with a 375 bottle share. Small bubbly head on a pitch black liquid. Aroma shows earthy coffee, strong barrel presence, nice bourbon level. The bean is pretty deep; caramel, roast, chocolate, earth. Flavor is very rounded. The bourbon only adds depth to the coffee bean. Booze does come off slightly but not harsh. Slight warming. Overall, Body is slightly thin but the coffee plays well with this bourbon barrel. Real nice.

Poured from bottle thanks Jsquire Imperial Stout #200 black with red hues and a nice thin cocoa head. Aromas of chocolate roasty malt coffee vanilla caramel and bourbon. Taste is delicious with so many layers of flavor. The body is slightly thin but the notes of vanilla caramel chocolate coffee with bourbon notes balances this beer. What a treat.

Bottle [from trade with thrashD] @ home shared with Joes. Opaque pitch black color, average sized light brown colored head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma and flavor both have malts, dark and roasted malts firmly, some coffee, don’t get chocolate at all. A bit dusty, powdery as well.. Hmm overall a little disappointing to me. I had expected better from this brewery.
