Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a yellow-gold color with a large creamy white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was faint, buttery, tangy and had a hint of vague fruits. The flavor was bitter, tangy and buttery with notes of toffee, faint vague fruits and cooked vegetables. Medium length finish of butter, toffee and fruit. Medium body. Disappointing.

Total Wine, Chantilly 12oz ($2): Pours a slightly hazed yellow with a white head. Aroma is lemon and bread. Taste is quite sour for a helles. The lemon is the primary flavour. There is a bit of bread and the like. I never had a beer of this style with so much fruitiness, and I can’t quite determine whether I think that is a good thing or a bad thing.

From tap at Khybar. Pours cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Vague butterish aroma. Sweet caramelish and slight roasted malt. Bitter and light grassy into a malty finish.

Tap. Poured dark golden color with a thin off white head. Aroma toasted malts, a bit doughy, citrus, toffee. Flavor was dough, malty, citrus, sweet, clean finish. Mouthfeel creamy, slightly bitter finish. Beer was pretty good, well balanced.

Draught at Barcade, New York
Hazy blond color. It shows light Hallertauer aroma. Simple flavor, hay; it has correct bitterness. Boring.

Growler from Market Street Wineshop, Uptown Location, Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy straw/lemon yellow color with a moderate frothy head that fades quickly to a persistent thin layer atop the beer. Aroma is very grassy and tart with a subtle layer of grain in the background. Taste is grassy hops with big cereal graininess. Some dry fruits as well, including banana and apple. Medium bodied.

British pint pour at the Gutter (man, Barcade people love Climax). The color is completely clear straw color. Aroma is strong, especially considering the style, with lagered sweet fruitiness and a light oiliness on the nose. Taste is much less fruity but instead the light fruitiness is complemented with a light herbal flavor. It has a bit of a seltzer/mineral mouthfeel to it. This is the exact opposite of the finish, which leaves a lightly oily feel and sweet fruit aftertaste. It’s an original take on the Helles style (whatever that may encompass).
