  Bock - Doppelbock Winter
Score
7.19
ABV: 7.5% IBU: - Ticks: 208
The pleasant, dark Doppelbock of monasterial origin, especially suited for festivities during the chilly season.

Typical for the Maximator is the full-bodied, pithy and pronounced body, coated with a fine and velvety refraction.

Due to the use of dark malt produced in the barn malt house, the light sweetness is surrounded by toasty cocoa notes.

The finish is smooth, with a lingering note of dark chocolate.

500ml bottle. Wonderful brownish ruby red colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Spicy malty aroma, a touch of hay, bread, toffee, caramel. Taste is minimally to moderately sweet caramel malty with a nuttily touch, hints of dark fruit, minimally dry hoppy counterweight; sticky palate, lasting malty finish. Superbly balanced, strong but very drinkable at once.

50cl bottle courtesy of Bartlebier @ Post Toer de Geuze tasting. Fresh.

Thx to Bartlebier. 50 cl. bottle sampled. Dark red ruby with little head. Sweet German malt nose, light syrup, light iron, spices, touch sticky, very German,… Taste is very German, malt, sticky, light spice, Christmas spice, some iron, bitter herbal, caramel syrup, some red berries,… Bit fizzy carb. Agreeable German fare.

22/IV/13 - 50cl bottle @ Rampkrot (Deurne) - BB: V/2013 (2013-367) Thanks to Bartlebier for sharing the bottle!

Clear ruby red to deep orange beer, irregular off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, bit funky, orange peel, some chloride, dried fruits, raisins. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: red berries, caramel, little sweet, bitter hops, some citrus, bit of chloride, bitter hops. Aftertaste: bready, caramel, sour red berries. Not bad, but I don't get the high ratings on this one...

On tap at Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin, 2013. - Surprisingly aromatic, not as sweet as expected. Roasted malt and ripe fruit (plums). There is some aromatic bitterness, not the coarse bitterness of many bock beers. Excellent bock - full of flavour but without the aromatic deficiencies of many. My favourite dark bock so far. Neuverkostung, 8.1.2019: Flasche von Hopfen & Malz, Berlin. - Dunkles Kupferrot, klar.

A hazy dark brown beer with a disappearing light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and hints of alcohol. The flavor is also sweet with notes of caramel, but the alcohol is not strong. Too sweet for me, difficult to finish all.
