Due to the use of dark malt produced in the barn malt house, the light sweetness is surrounded by toasty cocoa notes.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours an almost clear mahogany colour with a medium sized throthy beige head. High carbonation. Aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel, toffee, molasses, plums, cherries, brown bread and brown sugar. Taste has all the notes from the aroma. Full bodied with a smooth sticky mouthfeel and a lasting lip smacking fruity and fairly sweet aftertaste. A good full flavoured Doppelbock.

Bottle. Maize in the aroma. Full bodied, bready and heavy on the tongue. Malt and raisin in the flavor. Loads of flavor! Sweet, but extremely well balanced. You really can’t taste the alcohol. Hints of licorice and tropical fruit, but the malt prevails. Top class doppelbock!

Bottle. Deep reddish amber with a beige head that's soon a coat. 3+ Aroma of singed toffee, bread, light spices. Full bodied, carbonation on the low side of medium. Sweet with dried fruit and marzipan, bread. A little lightness is supplied at the end with mild bitterness and spices. Not quite as clean a palate as expected. But pretty tasty and nicely balanced.

On tap at Zum Augustiner. Clear mahogany with a sligtly tan head. Sweet with malt, dark bread, caramel and some chocolate. Smooth and nicely drinkable.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Andover Classic Wines. Appearance is clear, red-amber with fair sparkle, crackling ephemeral fizzy off-white head and no lacing. Aroma is strong, rich molasses/brown bread, brown sugar, and hint of dark fruit. Taste is as aroma along with European hop earthy bitterness balance. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average carbonation and somewhat dry finish as taste. Overall, nice representative of the style. Not cloyingly sweet.
