Bottle shared at the Mahoosive Friday Tasting, from an IP trade with Kraddel, 03/01/14. Murky orange amber with a big off white head that eventually collapses to a swirl and edgework. Nose is sweet, dank hops, bitter orange, pissy, tarte apricot, sugars, burnt caramel. Taste comprises bitter orange, sweet tasting, light earthy hops, mandarin, bitter aprioct, woody boozey lick. Full bodied, fine carbonation, lightly cloying, rich warming booze in the closure. Drinkable, but very much to be shared, a little hot and sweet, as others more a barley wine or strong than a DIPA. some hop presence but in a muted way.

Mega Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Colin who worked hard for this one. Cloudy amber beer, residual white head. Palate is light and semi dry. Sweetish vanilla caramel. Bourbon and bourbon spice. Little dried fruits. Light dry finish. No way is this a dipa - no discernable hops. BA barleywine and whilst full of flavour a bit messy.

Bottle at the BIG 2-page tasting, thanks Colin & Kraddel! It pours cloudy golden-orange with a small beige head. The nose is stewed orange, peach, booze, wood and sherbet. The taste is stewed orange, peach, booze, tinned fruit cocktail, toasty sugars, light spice and sweet bread with a sweet, warming finish. Medium-full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Not exactly what I would call and DIPA...A bit hot and sweet. OK.

Bottle in London thanks to Colin and Kraddel, who handled the bottle. Pours cloudy gold with a frothy white head. Lots of dry pale malts in the nose, dusty pine. Big sweet flavor with sugary malts, honey, dough, pine needles. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Light warmth to finish, lots of sugary dough and pale malts, more honey, faint caramel. Tasty as something like a barley wine but it is not a DIPA.

This beastly 75cl monstrous scary bottle is courtesy of my good friend sebletitje, thanks Seb! It pours with a slightly hazy copper body that has gold edges and supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up thick citrusy nuanced maltiness that has an odd sort of earthy edge to it. I also get some pine hop resin and then yeasty funky earthy sweat socks soaked in lime juice. Interesting indeed. The taste is thick and vibrant with a mix of pine hops, pine resin and citrusy malty sweet bitter grapefruit hops. It then picks up weird earthy lime and earthy tea leaves and then some funky yeasty soured citrus. Wow. This is interesting and odd in many ways and it takes you on quite a ride.

75cl bottle courtesy of Kraddel @ Post Toer de Geuze tasting. Fresh. Orangé-acajou, col léger beige. Arôme est houblonné fermenté fort presque dans le dry hop, barrique reste subtile avec le wild turkey étant modéré. Palais est épais, alcoolisé mettant ici les 17% bien en avant. Note de grains, fruité presque de pêche et une note barrique tirant sur le ’wild’ pour un wild turkey modéré. Amertume reste perceptible sans pour cela être dérangeante. Sympa, mais extrême, à partager à plusieurs.

Aftertaste: sugary, caramel, lots of alcohol, little bitter, dry touch, more alcohol, very mouth drying bitterness.

Shared cost & bottle. 75 cl. bottle sampled. Reddish, rhubarb amber, little to no head. Smell is grapefruit, acetone, bitter herbs, oddly bitter, almost strawberry,… prob. some months old but who knows how an IIPA of this ABV behaves. Taste is bitter alcoholic, herbal, boozy pine, light earthly, very bitter spices, boozy, very burning nature, some strawberry,… Very easy body although hard to drink due to the booze,… Very interesting and fine stuff, although not too easy.

Bottle courtesy of kraddel, thanks! We started with a German IPA (yes, they do exist), then an American IPA, then this Belgian IPA. More specificaly, it’s a Flemish IPA, or FIMA. Or even more accurately, a Flemo-American IPA, or FLAIMO. I would tell you what this one tastes like, but of course I’d have to kill you. Declassify on: 22 April 2038, IAW Executive Order 12958 Section 1.4, as amended.
