And so it was written.......
According to Mayan and Hopi calendars the "transition from one world age to another'' will happen on December 21, 2012.
As an homage to the "transition" DC Brau has concocted an Imperial IPA named "On the Wings of Armageddon".
OTWOA is a single hop blend* beer utilizing Falconers Flight™. Brewed with just enough Pale malt, Cara-60, CaraPils and Malted wheat to carry the intense hop character onto the pallet.
At first glance, it has an orange hue in the glass with a viscus, rocky head that refuses to dissipate. Upon first sniff there are dominate aromas of citrus, white grapes and grapefruit with light bread and biscuit notes. After the first sip we taste a mellow bitterness that only grows as more is consumed. Moderately carbonated, deceptively smooth, refreshingly dry and extremely heady for a beer at 9.5% ABV.

6th August 2013Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Hazy amber beer, little pale cream coloured head. Smoth palate, semi dry with fine carbonation. Orangey hops, light tangerine. Hop spice and a dollop of grapefruit marmalde. Finishes semi dry with a bitter hop linger. Not bad but for a dipa it lacks something. 3.5

The Travlr tasting at ChrisO’s. Smooth creamy fluffy malts. Good pine hops, smooth. Semi sweet citrus. Decent tropical fruits. Crisp finish. Very nice.

Can shared at Bruce’s pad, thanks to George from NC, 06/08/13. Murky orange amber with a thin off white head. Nose is bitter hops, grapefruit, pine resin, bitter orange, caramel malts. Taste comprises orange pith, bitter grapefruit, trace of booze, grass, pine. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, dry in the finish with agressive hop bitterness. Bang tidy!

Can, big thanks to George! It pours hazy golden amber with a thick yellow-white head. The nose is juicy orange, tangerine, pine, soft mango, sherbet, earth and some underlying sweetness. The taste is smooth, tangerine, orange, nice bitterness, resin, good alcohol bite, salty, earth and a touch of caramel with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Smooth, tasty, well-balanced and utterly drinkable. Great stuff!

Can at Bruce’s in London during Jack’s farewell tasting. Pours hazy gold with a moderate, frothy white head. Lovely aroma, lots of juicy grapefruit, mango, orange pith. Medium sweet flavor but not cloying at all, more pithy citrus, balanced but sturdy bitterness, pine needles, grapefruit. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Well and resinous to finish, lots of grapefruit, hints of spicy pine and anise, orange, tangerine. Beautiful stuff.

Can from trade with nimbleprop, many thanks. Orange colored beer with huge off-white head. aroma of malt, resin, tropical fruits, oranges, grapefruit zest. Taste, nice honey malty base, followed with huge portion of fruity hops with oranges, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, lemons, grapefruit zest, pines. Long strong hoppy finish. Alcohol is dangerously hidden. Extremely tasty beer.

On tap at Birch and Barley. Pours light orange with white head. Light nice grapefruit aroma, nice lacing, medium body, and well carbonated. Taste is grapefruit with nice malt backbone. Well balanced and easy to drink.

cans by travlr ( epic ! ) drank at : - rampkrot - alvinne - groezrock ( a belgian punk/ hardocre festival) pours yellow ( if poured, of course ) / orange . white foam smell is delicious ! hoppy , bitter, juicy . realy juicy taste. VERY nice, bitter. noit THE best IIPA, but one of the better ones i ever had. feel lucky to have tried this ( and have a great can for my metal-collection ! ) thanx gene! btw, as always, but hyere it seems even more extreme, the IIPA that this is, is best served realy cold, in my opinion. you taste less fruits if it warms up ( i do, anyway) .

Several cans courtesy of Travlr @ Post Toer de Geuze tasting. Ultra fresh, about 3 weeks after canning. Orangée, col épais, crémeux beige, blanc-cassé. Arôme est houblonné, très frais, presque comme ouvrir un sac de houblon frais. Ça c’est une IPA comme je les aime. Houblon est généreux avec des notes fruitées, de sève en abondance. Palais est ici aussi, plein de houblons frais dans la lignée des Dale’s mais avec un houblonnage tellement présent. Amertume des houblons pour des notes herbacées et d’agrumes. Notes de pin pour un malté pas en reste mais qui laisse ample place aux houblons. Très frais, à voir comment le goût évolue avec un peu d’age, mais ici c’est une expérience en IPA formidable que on ne retrouve pas souvent dans les IPA Belges.

Clear deep orange beer, creamy off-white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of piny resinous hops, some pineapple, sweet malts, passion fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: nice piny hops, resinous bitterness, citrus fruits, grapefruit, peaches, sweet fruits. Aftertaste: very fruity, piny hops, lots of exotic fruits, pineapple, grapefruit, citrus, bit sweet underneath it all. Very decent DIPA!
