Midnight Brett gets its name from the Midnight Wheat we brew it with. The dark wheat gives it a deep, dark chocolate color. The aroma opens with fresh berries and sour cherries, and ends with a warm roastiness. Each sip offers smooth drinkability met with the zip of tart fruitiness on the palate. We brew this beer with 2-row, Midnight wheat, raw wheat, and rye malt. It’s hopped with a blend of Perle, Glacier, and Simcoe hops. We then add our house strain of local, wild Brettanomyces yeast. The yeast works its magic over the next eight months where the beer ferments in a stainless tank. Midnight Brett begs to be shared no matter the hour on the clock.

Shared 12.7 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of berries, sour cherries, vinous. Taste is similar to nose, with additional barnyard, funk, light roast, and red wine. Good.

375ml bottle pours out dark brown topped with a small tan head. Nose is tart pit fruit some brett vanilla roast and berries. Taste is more of the light roast tartness some berries but more on the pit fruit side.

Bottle - Vintage 2014 - Lots of tart dark berry notes. Deep brown with a light brown head. Blueberry and vanilla, with some nice tart dark berry notes. Wonderful berry notes and a nice balanced tartness.

On tap at the Trappist. It pours a very dark brown color with an off white head. The aroma is lightly funky with cherry pie, some tobacco and a hint of treacle. The flavor has more cherry funk, ash, tobacco and leather. Mild dirty astringency and pie filling in the finish. Really tasty.

On tap at Monk’s Cafe, Philadelphia. A hazy reddish dark brown beer topped by a small, dense, beige head. The aroma is funky, with cigar, leather, some dark sugar and candied cherries, and a touch of wood. Some stable in the flavor, as well as the funky leathery touch from the aroma, and cherry hints, dark sugar and some raisins. Rather dry on the palate, full-bodied and lightly effervescent. Lasting finish. A super complex and tasteful beer, but a tad weird I think. 150622

Pours dark reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, funk, brett, some fruitiness, tartness and wood. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter with a light sour with a long slightly dry, fruity, brett, funky and woody finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

(Bottle, 0375 l, at laiti’s, 20150613, thanks) The beer poured dark brown and cloudy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had tartness, vomit, fruitiness and malts Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were tartness, sweetness, malts, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was dry, sour and bitter. An interesting and not actually bad tart and malty brew.

Taste is complex, funky, smooth and slightly roasty with some licorice, tart cherries, candy, spices and hops. Finish is smooth, tart and funky with some roastiness, juicy fruits, cherries, candy, hints of syrup and bretta. Pretty nice and balanced. Not your typical dark sour ale.
