Aroma has strong bretta tones and vinegums. Also mild toffee tones. Flavour has bretta, grapefruit, some red wine and hints of vinegar. Also some hoppy tones. Somewhat pleasant.

Bottle. Pours deep mahogany, medium tan head, dissipates to a nice residual and decent lacing. Aroma is roasty, barnyard, a bit of dark dried fruit. Flavor is dry, lightly tart and light plus funky, roasty, but the predominant flavor note is funk, a more acetic and tannic funk than my preferred strains. Medium body, high carbonation. Meh.

Currant, red grape, oak, and funk nose, equal proportions. Maroonish brown, clear, huge tan head, good lacing. Not at all tart like I expected. Briney oak and twigs. Root vegetable finish, beets are discernible. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. This is pretty awful. There’s no way that this is what the brewer intended.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very fast-dying tan head. Aroma of sour grapes, alcohol, light malt, nuts, earth and a bit of bitter nuts. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rich earthy malt flavours coupled with some lighter grape, alcohol and brett/sour flavours with touches of the spicey yeast. Aftertaste shows a complex maltiness with some alcohol, light fruit sweetness and the brett flavours that come out strong. Overall, a nice beer, nothing too special, which is too bad, but this is pretty much all just a reputation rating - and I love Ally, but this is decent at best. I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased from Grateful Red in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 17-May-2014 for US$15,99 sampled at home in Washington to celebrate New Years 2015 - and it was sadly, money not well spent.

One mile house, nyc tap: Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is funk, along with some chocolate and a hint of fruit. Taste is sour at the beginning but the sourness is harder to pick up as you sip theough this beer. Still it was interesting.

The beer pours dark brown, looks black in the shadows. Seems to be quite cloudy. The head is beige and smallish and shrinks to a thin coating of bubbles after a short period. The aroma is earthy, spicy and fruity with various funky yeast and malt notes floating around. There’s a light chocolate flavor. Deep herbal woodiness. Mild cinnamon and vanilla. Pretty big on dark cherries with some stone fruit and berries. Dusty but there’s bright sweetness just below the surface. The taste is dry with that same mix of brett fruit, spice, earth, herbal wood and darker malt sweetness. Threatens to get medicinal in the finish but stays away from any unpleasantness. More herbal in the taste. Fruit is still present but gets a bit overshadowed by that woodsy herbal note. Light feel but still quite creamy and not crisp or harsh. Interesting and better than expected from a dark brett beer.

Draft at Churchkey during DC Craft Beer Week. Poured a dark cola brown color with a light tan head. Aroma was some sour notes, roasted malt, light coffee roast notes. Nice tartness, sour cherries. Pretty good.
