Poured into a footed pilsner flute at the brewpub. Served a bit cold, I needed to let it warm up. Color is murky, mucky, dirty brown with some head, which fades and leaves a medium sized lacing on the side of the glass. This beer goes in line with the other barrel aged beers I have been drinking at this location, in a nutshell: more infected that intentionally sour. Maybe I am splitting hairs but when I drink this I don’t get craftsmanship but lack of skill. Strong alcoholic fruitiness peaks through dry wood leaves and infected tang, twang, and musk on the nose. I probably would have loved this 7 years ago but now I view it as shoddy workmanship. Flavor is slightly better with cleaner more disparate elements but still a "lets fill a barrel and see what happens" sort of deal. The twang comes in the aftertaste and its cleaner and leaner (the saving grace of the flavor). I will try a few more barrel aged brews from this RB location but I am 0/3 at the moment and have little patience left.
