Tap, Proeflokaal De Molen. Caramel, licorice and a hint of cinnamon in the aroma ("No herbs" says Molenbrouwer) Malty sweet flavor with some roasted malt and laurel. Flowery and earthy hops banging in in the aftertaste. Very good! Bottle, bought at the brewery. Brown sugar aroma with some caramel and butter (no diacetyl!). Very sweet flavor with roasted malt, butter, licorice and laurel. Also a firm flowery hopbitterness, revealing itself especially in the aftertaste. Good beer, although I prefer the tap version (6 3 8 3 14 = 3.4) 2011 bottle, bought @ the brewery: 7.7% ABV. Dark brown color. Malt, pear drups and chocolate in the aroma. Almost full bopdied. Roasted and chocolate flavor. Bready. Long roastbitter finish with dark chocolate. Lovely doppelbock, full of character. (7 3 8 4 15 = 3.7)

Usual small bottle: poured into a ’Corsendonk’ badged stemmed tulip on 17 Aug 2013, the last beer in my ’random beer tasting evening’ held with no one but myself. Very little sediment (if any) left the bottle. I love the intensity of Doppelbocks and this offering didn’t let me down. The look was deep ruddy amber/ light ruby red , the off-white head becoming a whisper and collar far to quickly for me. As you’d expect, the malts rule the aroma and taste: sweet malty molasses take over completely, biscuity and lightly roasted in the nose, richer and deeper in the taste. Lovely brew from start to finish, rich, flavoursome and interesting, I love maltier brews and this beer and style suits be too a tee!
