We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves.
Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

This one’s a dangerously drinkable 7% IPA. The aroma has a bit of everything - grapefruit, lime, nougat, honey, resin and a little cherry. The big hops whack you in the mouth, spreading all over the tongue and right down your throat, but the malt is strong too, including a little burnt toast and caramel. You certainly notice the alcohol in the aftertaste, but not so much upfront. I got through that one a little too quickly, and now I’m pinned to the couch with nought to do but enjoy the memories.

Bottle. Amber color with white head. Aroma is resinous, piney, lychee, pineapples, some malts. Taste is exotic fruity, more lychee and pineapples, resinous, toasted malts, bitter finish. Medium carbonation. Great!

Okay white head and orange body. Farty aroma, hay funk, a bit of lemon juice in there. A bit of skunk cabbage in there too, sauerkraut maybe. Flavour is sharp grapefruit with a hint of booze. Dry finish. Not bad, but that aroma is kinda funky.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a clear gold with a finger of white foam that lingers throughout. Lots of passionfruit, lychee, gooseberry and sudachi in the nose with some weed notes as it warms. Body is well-balanced with just enough caramel malt to keep it interesting. Nice, bitter finish but not overly bitter. Could drink this all night. It gets a little bit of gooseberry, lemony tartness on the finish with some citrusy zest. Excellent beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of HopWired I.P.A. on 18 Apr 2016 at 21:05 - Score: 8. Original review text: Ay yo....this is a serious IPA. It's as good as sono Ju. Maybe the body is a tad bit maltier but that isn't a bad thing. Seek and destroy!!

At the multi-national tasting held in Rome-Italy on 29/08/2015 (Jow, Mortlach, ippopotamo36 and Marco). Bottle (fresh) courtesy of Sylvan, thank you. Pours hazy (semi-filtered) orange peel color, medium adhesive off white cap. Nose: elegant nose, cara malts, a hint of smoky notes, resin. Mouth: fresh and easy although the ABV, clean, creamy maltiness, cookies. Nise!
