We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves.
Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

Bottle at Rome tasting mixing things up with New Zealand getting in the mix. Nose of hops and forest floor. Tastes of pine forest, orange creamsicle, tropical fruits, caramel, and honey dew. Quite bitter and quite tasty.

Bottle. Golden color, white head. Aroma of pine, peach and citrus. Smooth taste of pine, butter, citrus and peach. Floral finish with a little bitter caramel. Great beer, as always with 8wired. Still, it’s clear that this bottle is too old, I’m curious to how a fresh version will taste.

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Amber, with a light haze. Big, bubbly, messy, sticky, off white head. Lovely, tropical fruit to this. On the squidy side of things. Ripe peach. Passion fruit. Fruit salad sweets in there. Good malty depth, again on the fruity side. Bit of wafer biscuit. Mouthwatering. Drinks soft sweet, and crisp bitter. Smooth, clean palate. Feels way under 7.3%. Finishes crisp, long bitter, with a fruity, ice cream sweetness on the lips. Lovely.

Tap at Sklep. Aroma intense hoppy, resiny, piney, citrusy, caramel. Hazy orange colour. Taste is hop-centered, but also quite strong caramel background. Piney, resiny, citrusy hop flavour. Very good.

(Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Stockholm, 12 Sep 2014) Reddish amber colour with brief, beige head. Fruity, slightly sourish nose with dried fruit, oak wood, buttery malt, caramel and tropical fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, oak wood, dark fruit, apricots, black-currant and a bitter-sweet finish with earthy hops. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. A bit weird, but really tasty. Nice one.
