Beer is typically fermented in a very calculated, controlled manner with pure strains of brewers’ yeast. Our award winning lambic beer is instead fermented by exposing it to the untamed yeasts and bacteria that are native to our Brewery. We affectionately call this unrestrained, wild amalgamation our House Funk. This blend is unique to Rivertown and this unusual, spontaneous process, involving over a year of fermentation in oak wine barrels, is what gives this beer its distinctive flavor; dry, funky, vinous, and cidery, with a crisp, sour aftertaste that will continue to develop in the bottle for years to come.

15/VIII/15 - 75cl bottle @ We're drinking all of Rich's American beers tasting - BB: n/a, 2013 vintage (2015-1063) Thanks to omgrich for sharing the bottle!

Clear pale blond beer, creamy small aery white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit fruity, spicy, bit dry, funky touch. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bitter, lemon rind, some grapefruit, funky touch. Aftertaste: lemon rind, funky, very soft, nice but not very complex. Very curious about how an Ohio brewery exposes their wort to the wild yeast and bacteria (not bacterias) from the Senne Valley. Dumped a bottle of Cantillon and a bottle of 3F in their, I suppose, except I would've expected a better outcome then. :p

Shared at Ale Alpharetta. Nice, hazy, gold, with a thin grey ring. Lemon zest, hay, white sugar, mango, and cloves. Sweet and venous, with a great, mellow, tart character. Medium body, crisp, and clean. Overall, this is excellent. Great balance, and a fantastic flavor and body.

750 ml bottle thanks to Willrunforbeer for sharing this 2013 vintage. Dirty hazy gold color. Aroma is dirty socks, horse blanket, moldy oak and a trace of vinaigrette.

Flavor shows lactic sourness, old oak, dirty jock strap and straw. Tart and sour, it is what it should be. Chewy body with a very dry texture. Thanks for sharing Brian.

Bottle at End of History tasting. You know its far along in a tasting when i look at notes in phone and my review has a lot of cursing and spelling mistakes but I was able to translate and edit for television. orange pour and nose of brett and citrus. tastes amazing of the unblended thing i can’t put my finger on. you get florals, apricot, lime, and yeast. tart and refreshing. this is a great effort.

Bottle thanks to RJ5020, 2011 vintage - thanks! Pours hazy butterscotch, small white head, fizzy and disispates quickly leaving some lacing. Aroma is funky, basement must, horse blanket, very oaky, light lemon. Flavor is light plus tart, oaky, lightly funky - less than the nose would have indicated, a bit of fruitiness, perhaps white grape. Light body, sharp carbonation. Some lingering acidity. This is a pretty nice beer.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out wine barrels, oak, and Belgian yeast. Flavour is more like a saison, with a very faint lambic quality, some Belgian yeast, and light funk. I get what they're trying to do, but it really isn't a traditional lambic at all. Pretty damn awesome though for what it is. Delicious beer, despite it not being a typical lambic. Great stuff.

Bottle courtesy of Secret Santa (summer 2013). Thank you jsquire! Pours hazy golden with a frothy orangish white head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sour and slightly phenolic with crackers, lemon juice, hay, rubber, horse blanket, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, green apples, dry wood, hay and hints of barnyard. Taste is sour, tiny metallic and slightly phenolic with crackers, lemon juice, unripe apples, unripe pears, hay, dry soil, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, gastric acid, rubber, barnyard and dry wood. Mouthfeel is dry, tart and light bodied. Finish is sour and slightly phenolic with crackers, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, hay, dry soil, barnyard, horseblanket, lemon zest and hints of gastric acid. A nice surprise. Impressively authentic and nicely refreshing.
