Bottle. A black one, topped by small, dense, dark beige head. Lots of licorice on the nose, with roasted malts, coffee and some chocolate. Burnt, bonfire-ish notes in the flavor, with roasted malts, licorice and some coffee and chocolate. Rather dry on the palate, full-bodied and quite dry. Long finish with some alcohol warmth in addition to what’s found initially. A decent beer, but far from impressive. Too dry and roasted I think. 150725

Italo-Belgian imperial stout brewed in Flanders. Violent gushing upon opening the bottle, black liquid flooding the table... Opaque black, just a thin shade of yellowish brown on the edge, deep beige, thinnish head breaking open after a while but retaining more or less around the edge of the glass. Aroma of raisins, candied cherries, chocolate sauce and chocolate liqueur, cappuccino, pear syrup, a faint hint of glue-like solvent (not disturbing), leather, port wine, liquorice, cloves, bark, papaja, pipe tobacco and something vaguely meaty. Fruity, sweet onset, ’Belgian’ in being a bit estery, candied cherries and dates, soft carbo; thick and oily, quiet, smooth mouthfeel, rich and thick layers of malts, in which the chocolate effect dominates. Finishes yeasty, a little bit sourish and herbally hoppy but the bitterness mostly comes from coffee-like roasted grains, though not agressively so, rather soft and gentle; chocolatey and caramelly malt sweetness also lingers and the last thing you’ll notice is a heart warming, rhum-like alcohol effect, though in a relatively subtle way. In all, a perfectly decent imperial stout, perhaps not the fullest, most complex or richest example out there, but a very enjoyable one with high drinkability; well balanced, satisfying and tasty. Just too bad for the gushing!

Bottle at bierhuyske . Pours pitch black, good dark foam . Smell and taste are similar, and contains lots of roasted malts , bit bitter , not as sweet as other WP beers . Very basic, yet unique and intense stout . I like it !
