Blonde with copper reflections, topped with a generous head, Hopus derives from a secret batch brewed for the marriage of Paul Lefebvre.

From bottle at Le Metropole, Lille. A gusher. Clear straw colour. Foamy head. Moderate fruity aroma of grass. Similar taste. Fine aftertaste, with moderate bitterness.

phenolic strong blonde Belgian ale. Some candi sugar, but nothing really that special.

Part of my 2013 backlog, and a gift brought back from Belgium. Hazy golden colour with a huge foamy white head. The aroma has plenty malt, also with fruit and hops. The taste sweet and fruity.

Bottle from a colleague at work. Clear gold lasting thick white head. It’s an ok strong Belgian blond. It’s fine. A bit bland. A bit boozy. Fine but very simple Belgian ale.

One of the new generation of ’tripel hop’ beers in Belgium, holding the middle between the old, family brewer’s tripel and the new IPAs micro breweries come up with these days. A great success for Lefebvre and hopped with no less than five hop varieties (so technically I shouldn’t have used the term "tripel" hop, but you get my drift). A golden blonde beer with a thick, stable, cream white head and fruity main character adorned with yeasty spiciness and a long, complex, grassy, herbal, peppery hoppiness, not quite as bitter as in a real IPA, but still. The deposit is supposed to be served separately in a small liquor glass, as is sometimes done with oude geuze or Orval.

33 cl bottle purchased in Skopje and drunk in Kosovo. Intense golden and opaque color, very tick and tall white foamy head (a persistent cap). Light sweetness in the nose, hay feeling. The mouth is not terrific; the taste is round but nothing really distinguishes this beer. It is a typical Belgian Strong Ale, very dry and therefore easier to drink, a bit of alcohol feel which remains pleasant. This beer does not develop in the mouth as others of the same style do, although it is not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
