The jewel in our crown was celebrated, many years in advance, by the prescient Jem Casey, Poet of the Pick and Bard of Booterstown, when he remarked that when “…no rashers grease your pan / A pint of plain is yer only man.” We agree and we’re not alone. Our Plain Porter – porter is a lighter version of stout – is a double gold medal winner. Its subtly aromatic, a silky, round mouthful with a touch of bitterness kicking in at the finish.

0,33l from tap at Ammutson Vienna. As Nitro. Black color, small milky tan head. Smells musty, earthy, nutty, earl grey notes, bit breadish, grainy. Ok smell. Light body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes earthy, peppery, tobacco, grainy, nutty. Finishes lightly roasty bitter with notes of earth, tobacco and peppery notes. Decent but also not a favourite

Little from Beer52. Coffee and roast aroma. Dark and glossy. Fluffy head, more off-white than beige. Light bitter. Coffee and berries. Underlyi g malts which become more prominent. Light bodied and on the thin side but slick. A fizz of carbonation. It is indeed plain. Low on taste, low on palate, but drinkable.

Keg @ Ramble + Rose, Hebden Bridge. Black with a thick creamy-frothy head and mild roasted malts in both aroma and taste. It's an inoffensive dark session ale.

Trocken malziger Beginn. Noten von Pfefferminz, süß-röstig, etwas trocken. Die Kräuternoten nehmen zu, süffig, langer trockener Nachhall. Okay. 10/9/10/9//10

Draft @ Porterhouse, Temple Bar. Pitch black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some coffee and dark chocolate. Taste follows aroma plus a little bit of hops. Finish is a little bit dry. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. It's just a plain Porter but a very delicious one
