Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed. With 6 pounds of hops per barrel, Palate Wrecker is officially the hoppiest beer in the ring. Our Double IPA is the result of a complex and innovative double-brewing process that is exclusively ours. First, there is a single infusion mash and subsequent boil at 65 IBU with Columbus and Centennial hops. Then, a second duplicate mash using the 65 IBU wort instead of water and a second 65 IBU boil using the same hop schedule. The result is a higher gravity beer with kettle caramelizing in place of crystal malts and an elevated hop flavor and bitterness that might not be achieved with the same amount of ingredients in a single brew.

Fruity, resiny, abrasive but too heavy.
2014-02-27, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 7-5-8-5-15=40
Amber color, clear, with creamy head. Sweet and fruity beer, with a good mix of malt and caramel, medium sweetness, a bit candyish, strong bitterness, hop resins, cedar peel, and a mild animal character present in the aroma and flavor.
Good, potent, but I wouldn’t drink much of it.

355ml Flasche. Bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig fruchtig, exotische Früchte. Geschmack sehr fruchtig malzig, lange Bitterkeit.

12oz bottle from Georgio’s Liqour, Billerica, MA. Golden amber with a thick cream head; fresh, spicy, hoppy aroma; an unsurprisingly strong hoppy taste with some underlying grapefruit; and a long lingering green hopped finish. This does exactly what it says on the bottle, and very nicely too.

Pleasantly surprised, as it is not as intense as I thought after reading the description. Hoppy for sure, but relatively smooth and slick. Some malt comes through the hop assault as well, making this a tasty beer. Cheers!

22 oz bottle. Pours orange amber with a very slight haze and an off-white head. Strawberry or tropical fruit aroma, orange and grapefruit. Flavor doesn’t really show that odd strawberry I got, instead being a mix of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit, quite bitter with just a hint of sweetness. Definitely a good one.

I actually thought this was very easy to drink despite all the hype, the guy in the store I found it is very knowledgeable and even he was almost scared of this one. No need to offer the description, its all hops here, aroma, taste, and finish.

Bottle: Pours clear, orange-red-amber...beautiful body....with a small, soapy white head. Pine, grapefruit-peel, orange aroma....(and a second or two of , well, feet.) Taste is orange-peel, pine, fruit.... A hint of tropical and florals. Very bitter, but well balanced.. Very easy to drink, not the brutal hop bomb it is touted as, but very good.

Bottle. Pours a dark rust color with a thick 2 finger foamy eggshell head. Plenty of lacing all the way down the glass. Tropical-citrus-hop nose leads to a hop EXPLOSION in taste. Bitter, resinous hops linger on the tongue. Medium bodied with a bit of alcohol on warming. WOW! Definitely not for the fainthearted (or for those seeking any sense of balance :-)

Bottle pour to pint glass. Citrus aroma. Clean gold-orange color. Palate surprising smooth for such a bitter taste. Taste dry resiny pine dominated by bitterness and tempered with a bit of malt. Bitter finish followed by long lasting bitterness. A nice example of bitterness taken to extremes!
