Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed. With 6 pounds of hops per barrel, Palate Wrecker is officially the hoppiest beer in the ring. Our Double IPA is the result of a complex and innovative double-brewing process that is exclusively ours. First, there is a single infusion mash and subsequent boil at 65 IBU with Columbus and Centennial hops. Then, a second duplicate mash using the 65 IBU wort instead of water and a second 65 IBU boil using the same hop schedule. The result is a higher gravity beer with kettle caramelizing in place of crystal malts and an elevated hop flavor and bitterness that might not be achieved with the same amount of ingredients in a single brew.

Draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap, served in a tulip glass. Orange amber in color with a lasting cap of white head. Aroma is buckets of Hop pellets. Really go to a homebrew store and smell some Centennial and Cascade, this is how it smells to me. Thankfully the flavor does have some balance, toasted caramel, butterscotch and traces of tropical fruit. The bitterness does lingering for quite a good while and compounds as I got to the end of the tulip. Bitterness is all resinous hops, grapefruit pith. Body is rather full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol for the 9.5 tag. I do have to include in my notes I was not able to drink another beer for about 4 hours after I finished this beer. Much water and food was needed after this beast. The bitterness caught up with me.

Bottle pours a murky orange amber with a small but dense creamy light tan head. Strong bitter aroma with some carmel sweetness. Heavy smooth palette, low on the carbonation. More like a Barley Wine.

Sample at SBWF 2013. A bit hazy amber with a medium head. Nice bitterness in this one. Hops, resin, grape, some alcohol in the finish. A solid one.

Schwerer blumig hopfiger und alkoholischer Antrunk. Das Bier wird dunkler und deutlich malziger, das Bier bleibt schwer. Süß, im späten Mittelteil würziger, dabei bleiben Alkoholnoten nach wie vor deutlich erkennbar. Zu schwer. 11/8/8/9/9/8

Look, I am a lager lover, get used to it. This beer is a palate wrecker from the start. Its thick aroma of the BO of your favorite mate’s underarm is barely perceivable and definitely there. Taste is big thick soapy mouth coating episode. Terribly on style. Way tp much for the taste buds of my girlie palate. Roto tiller is the only way to describe this experience on my tongue, how rude. Wew. Nasty - ness. Same with finish, good thing I made this the last draft at bocktown today, again wew.

Draft. Resiny pine and very bitter with a hint of tropical fruit. Decently strong caramel malt backbone. Very good.

Nice package, though I only wish my palate wasn’t wrecked so I could go home and spend less money. Good balance of hops and booze in aroma. Pours orange with some lacing, little head. Booze isn’t hidden in finish, brings a good dose of bitterness with hops. On tap at Alibi Room.

Bottle thanks to a trade. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of of resin with some grapefruit and a hint of underlying flora. Flavor starts with a touch of flora and grapefruit and has a growing resin note through the finish.

12oz bottle. Filtered looking orange-tan. Frothy head fades away after awhile, but some foam remains on the edges. Relatively mild aroma, some melon, grapefruit. Really fresh, really well balanced. Doesn’t really wreck my palate, this is a pretty drinkable, refreshing IIPA. Certainly has lots of hop character, but it is cool, crisp, tropical melon tinged..not resinous and piny overload like the IIPAs of yesteryear. Really solid offering.
