Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed. With 6 pounds of hops per barrel, Palate Wrecker is officially the hoppiest beer in the ring. Our Double IPA is the result of a complex and innovative double-brewing process that is exclusively ours. First, there is a single infusion mash and subsequent boil at 65 IBU with Columbus and Centennial hops. Then, a second duplicate mash using the 65 IBU wort instead of water and a second 65 IBU boil using the same hop schedule. The result is a higher gravity beer with kettle caramelizing in place of crystal malts and an elevated hop flavor and bitterness that might not be achieved with the same amount of ingredients in a single brew.

Tap. Grassy floral light pine aroma. Hazy orange, creamy offwhite head Very perfumed hoppy flavor, pine, lime. Extremely sticky oily resin clinging to the palate. Not enjoying this very much, terribly unbalanced, why not just drink hop extract directly?

Clear gold with a tall, sticky white head. Fresh grapefruit, pineapple and pine resin aroma. Assertively bitter but smooth with plenty of malt support. Pine resin, citrus. Nicely complex flavor. Well done IIPA.

12 oz bottle from a 4-pack. Pours hazy orange with a thick cream-colored head with good retention. The first aroma to hit me is peachy hops, lots of them. Taste starts out sweet, turns extremely bitter mid-palate, and remains that way through the long finish. This is really good, I’m not getting too much vegetal here, but it just doesn’t compete with the freshness of Stone’s Enjoy By IPA. This is really good, but falling a little short.

Sampler at Armanetti’s. Murky amber color. Big hop nose. Guess I did not pick up that the IBU’s were higher than the tongue can actually perceive, being as it had plenty of more aromatic hops in it. The main impression was of passionfruit, but lots of resin stickiness in the mouthfeel. Lays very nicely on my tongue.

Drought at BeerAuthority, NY. Dark yellow appearance with beige spongy head, hops aroma, very strong bitter shoppy taste, long finish, It is indeed a palate wrecker!

Sampled on draft at D’s Monroeville this beer poured a dark caramel-orange color with a medium sized foamy white head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was semi sweet pine, tropical fruits and sugar. The flavor was very bitter and rough with piney hops and sour caramel. Turns dry towards the long bitter and rough finish. Moderately full bodied. Ok.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop; hazy amber pour with soapy white head, zesty piney hop aroma, massive bitter licking a square battery like taste with zesty citrus hops slight metallic. Really nice drinking DIPA.

Shared 12 fl. oz. bottle, kindly provided by abemorsten. ABV is 9.5%. Hazy orange colour, large white head. Strong aroma of orange marmalade and fruity and resinous American hops. The flavour is indeed a "palate wrecker" - that is why this beer was chosen as the last beer of the evening at our tasting. Extremely hoppy flavour, but still, in its own weird way, fairly "well balanced" - mainly because the malty sweetness seems just right. to stand up to the hoppiness. Grapefruit, resin / pine and spruce. Yes, it is a "typically American double IPA", and I’ve "seen it before"- but still: Oh so GOOD! Halleluja!
