Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed. With 6 pounds of hops per barrel, Palate Wrecker is officially the hoppiest beer in the ring. Our Double IPA is the result of a complex and innovative double-brewing process that is exclusively ours. First, there is a single infusion mash and subsequent boil at 65 IBU with Columbus and Centennial hops. Then, a second duplicate mash using the 65 IBU wort instead of water and a second 65 IBU boil using the same hop schedule. The result is a higher gravity beer with kettle caramelizing in place of crystal malts and an elevated hop flavor and bitterness that might not be achieved with the same amount of ingredients in a single brew.

Orange copper colour, white head. Aroma of hops, tropical fruit, passionfruit, citrus, resin and honey. Light floral. Hop bitter flavour, quite sweet malts. Relatively full body, bitter finish, fruity and floral.
Nice! Quite balanced for such a hop forward beer.
(from 15cL bottle brought to New year Party. Got it from tderoeck. Thanks!)

355 ml. bottle sampled thx. to Kraddel. Pours a hazy orange, real amber with a very thick & creamy white head. Smell is quite lovely & rather supreme above taste in my perspective, big American hops, lots of citrus here, lemon peel, fruity, creamy, USA hoppy with berries. Taste is quite bitter, USA fruity citrus hops, creamy lemon peel, berries going into a quite harsh floral-esque finish, strong grapefruit, some caramel in the start but finish is quite heavy on the previously mentioned bitter flavours, strongly hoppy stuff. Fuller, creamier body. Quite good & enjoyable but a bit hard to finish even at the end of my sample which was less than the full bottle – quite nice but cannot imagine drinking a lot of this.

35,5cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika. Pours slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Hoppy and caramelly aroma with pine, fruits, citrus and malt. Quite sweet caramelly with lots of hops and a nice and bitter finish. A bit too much on the sweet side for my liking, but a very decent DIPA. Full body and pleasant, bitter aftertaste with pine and citrus.

Bottle at home. Has a slightly hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Theres a lot of hops in the aroma, almost like pure pelets that feels like resin, herbs and some organic iron. In the mouth I first sence grapefruit then some sweet pine and then some powerful hops. Has a soft and slick mouthfeel, and a heavy bitterness. This is powerful DIPA, maybe too violent in my opinion.

0.355l bottle. This is a quite delicate looking blurry amber-honey colored thing with a big lasting almost fluffy top that stick around for a while. On the nose I get licorice, tons of strong leather-like American-fruity hops. Really thick and malty also, with an almost hedge-like hoppyness. There is just no doubt that this is a strong and heavy DIPA. Just to rest your mind it's not leaving much doubt in the taste either. Lovely hoppy all the way. Both pine and grassy bitter hops dancing on the tongue. Some fruity and sweet caramel tones in between here, ripe strawberries perhaps? Also, that licorice thing is present in the taste. It has a rich oily mouthfeel and the carbonation level is pretty much average. Delicious. 21.09.2012

355ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. White tophead, near-clear amber coloured body. Fragile lacing. Smell of pine, sweet malts and dusty hops. Well blended flavour of succulent hops and dried fruits with emphasis on apricot. Malt bitter ending. Full bodied. Excellent night sipper (hotel room, Oslo 15.09.2012).
