Blessed be! Our ridiculously big, hoppy I.P.A. returns to the rapturous exaltations of worshippers far and near.
Featuring Simcoe, Amarillo, and Columbus hops at an unheard of rate of over three pounds per barrel, with American pale and Belgian caramel malts providing a malty but dry pedestal upon which this hop fest rides until its long, lingering,hop-bittered finish. Beware this vengeful, Old-Testament God. Say your prayers…

’Imperial red ale’ so a kind of hybrid between Irish red and imperial IPA. Pale beige, creamy head quickly dissipating under influence of the alcohol, deep copper red colour, hazy. Powerful aroma of figues, cooked rhubarb, gin, cloves, leafy hops, tonic water, cognac, amaretto, grapefruit peel. Fruity sweetness, slick and resinous, medium carbo, citrus freshness, caramel malt base, ever more hoppy towards the end, soft and herbal at first but sharp and tonic water-like in the tail, lots of booze too, alcohol not well hidden, even a bit wry.

22oz bomber pours with a clear ruby red amber sort of body that supports a full tan head of foam. Nice looking beer. The aroma offers up resiny hops, floral hops, plum flavored gummy bears and some orange notes. The resiny hop aroma just keeps going despite the sweetness and this leads to resiny hoppy booze at the end of the draw. This taste is hoppy bitter and rich with sweetness. This is nice where there’s a pleasing mix of sweet malts, a dash of roasted malts, some fruity esters and then near robust levels of resiny pine like hops blended with bitter floral hops and some citrus hoppiness. Resiny hops and a sliver of roasted malts usher this to closure. This is coming together beautifully. Yum!

Bomber shared by Marcus. Pours ruddy copper with a beige head. Aroma of fruit hop and a touch of chocolate. Med body. Flavor is hoppy with fruit and citrus. Mild not-quite-roasty malt with a hint of chocolate. Finishes towards dry.

1st December 2012
Hazy dark amber - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is slightly soft and has nice fine carbonation. Luxuriant creamy malt, soft and with caramel and toffee streaks. Hops are well balanced with equal amounts of skunk, grass and citrus. Finishes smooth with a good grassy hop aftertaste. Nice Imperial Red!

dark amber colour, huge beige head, which however collapses quite quickly; very pleasant aroma of citrussy (mainly grapefruit) and floral hops, bread, hints of honey and maybe some minimal alcohol; taste of hoppy bitterness and significant amount of malty sweetness (this latter one is a bit too intensive for me, ruining a bit the harmony of hops); not bad imperial IPA, but a bit overpriced ...and my bottle indicates also 9% ABV

65 cl. bottle sampled @ RBESG 2013. Thx! to dEnk. My notes appear to state that the bottle was from June 2012. Pours a darker hazy amber with a creamy mocha head. Nose is earthly, spicy hops, older hops, some ice tea, faded somewhat. Taste is bitter earthly hops, bitter spices, light herbs, leaves, some resin, light liquorish,… Bit thicker body. Probably way too old but still enjoyable for sure.

75cl Bottle at RBESG ’13 Grand Tasting. Amber colour, off-white pillowy head. Aroma of toast, caramel, hops. Flavour is medium-sweet, hoppy citrus, floral, fruity, hoppy, sweet and hoppy alcoholic finish. Tastes better than it smells. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Bottle at the RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Poured a cloudy reddish brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is rich fruit leading to a medium bitter rich, alcoholic liquorice flavour. A super DIPA with a lovely lingering hoppy bitter liquorice finish. Really heart warming!
