Bière forte et veloutée, délicatement relevée par des notes de gingembre qui s’associent aux saveurs des malts torréfiés. Son final houblonné lui renforce la longueur en bouche.

Dark brown, thin head. Aroma is rich sweet molasses, cardamom, stewed fruits, cinnamon, and the palate is the same. Just enough sugar - barely - to handle the spices. Good.

Tasting at Matt’s
Black color, with brown head. Very weird aroma, some dark chocolate, but also a lot of spices (cinnamon, anise) and it smells like soap. Smooth mouthfeel, good roasted malt flavor, but then it has an extreme soapy flavor (the spices), and vegetable bitterness in the end.
Messy, pointless, unpleasant; why not brewing a straight good beer?

330ml bottle at Matt’s. Pours a dark brown with a brown head. Aroma brings lot’s of bakery spices, ginger and some roasted malt. Taste is oily, bakery spices, ginger, roasted malt. Burnt malt, hoppy bitterness aftertaste. Not bad.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has a strange spiciness to it, maybe some cardamom or coriander, can't really tell -- some roast as well. Flavour is a spice bomb, with lots of cardamom, maybe some ginger and probably other stuff. Thick, sludgy palate. I quite like it. Not masterfully made or anything, but it's decent.

Mother Kelly’s. Keg. Opaque black - brown beer, decent tan head. Palate is smooth and somewhat viscous, viscous enough that the fine carbonation seems slow to rise. Smooth and rich dark malts, a little dark chocolate. A herby - rooty thing going on. Mellow coffee. Nuts. Mild spice before a smooth finish. Spicy linger. Nicely done.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s - Bethnal Green. Pours oily black with a creamy, beige head. Nice dark chocolate and dark fruit in the nose, some toast and coffee. Medium to big sweet flavour with some bitter roast, raisins, dark berries, molasses, chocolate, earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, with some ashy dryness, baking cocoa, dried dark fruits. Solid.

Bottled 330ml. -from La Cave a Bulles Paris. Black coloured, medium sized brown head, light roasty and alcoholic nose. Roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, noticable alcohol, some berries and a bit too strong ginger in the finish. Interesting stout.

Goutte d’Or L’assommoir imperial barbessian stout 9.7% Bottle given to me by the brewer and shared with some stout fiends in Osaka. Pitch black with a rusty tan head. Great chocolate cocoa nibs & roasty aroma. The taste is bitter dark malts, chocolate & ginger in the aftertaste. Solidly done.
