Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Bottle. Cloudy honey gold with a large thick creamy white head, great retention. Sugary tart fruity aroma, and a little bit of slightly funky yeast. Sweet fruity, slightly bready malt and the barest hint of bitterness in the finish. Maybe a little bit of yeast, but not significantly bretty. Medium creamy body, moderate carbonation. I was hoping for more brett and rye character, and both seemed to be lacking.

Bottle. Pours clear golden, with a finger thick creamy head. Aroma is sweet fruity yeast, with apricot, bread and kandi. Medium body with a rippling, quite lively carbonation. Flavour is sour, with a good funky brett, oak and fruits. Nice finish with sour fruits.

Bottle at home. Has a slightly hazy light amber colour with a medium off-white head. The aroma is sweet and a bit sour with oak, apricot, hay, dried fruit and some spices and alcohol. Interesting. More oak and dried apricot in the flavour with a nice touch of spices. The mouthfeel is soft, and has a light bitterness. A nice and one of a kind beer with a good touch of oak.
