Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Light aroma of babyfood banana and lemon grass. Cloudy amber, thick head, good lacing. Candy sugar, peaches, and just a hint of funk, lemongrass finish. There’s a bitterness that doesn’t work. Easy to drink, low key saison.

Pours slightly hazy dark golden color with fluffy white head. Fruity ester aroma with some spices. Flavor is slightly sweet and fruity. There is a little spiciness from the rye. Light to medium body with effervescent carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

8th November 2008. Cloudy gold-amber beer, frothy white head. Flavoursome aromatic sourness and distinct spiciness. Just the right side of being over dry. Strong for a Saison. 22nd May 2010. ChrisOs ’Blue Ridge Mountains Of Virginia’ tasting! (Early hours of the morning rating). Sweet aromatics, good saison flavours. Refreshing. Better than original tasting.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a longlasting white head. Has a fruity yeasty spicy citrus aroma. Sweetish fruity yeasty spicy citrus flavor with some hints of brett. Has a dry malty yeasty spicy citrus finish with a bitter hoppy aftertaste.

Bottle. Dark organge color, creamy and long lasting white head. Fruity and spicy aroma. Notes of citrus, orange, brett yeast, clove and some hops. Full flavored! Orange, "spicy banana", vanilla, Bitter hop/brett thing going on in the aftertaste. Complex and refreshing beer.

750 ml. Cloudy, deep golden body. Huge, frothy white head, mostly lasting. The aroma is sweet and funky with notes of spice — mustiness, clove, toasted bread, wood, orange, alcohol. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture and lively carbonation. Sweet, almost sugary, with a slight vinegary taste that sits behind the lasting bitterness. Peppery alcohol, too. The brett is there, but not a big part of the beer. Too sweet and too much alcohol for a saison. Still, it gets points because it is an interesting beer and enjoyable.

Bottle, aged about a year or so. Fruity, estery nose, wheat, cream, lightly spicy rye. Deep orange-amber. Very estery flavor, peaches, some banana, apple. Enjoyable, more like a tripel. Quite a bit of rye. 75 cl bottle. 9/13/2009. 6/3/6/3/13. Ok aroma of spices and Belgian yeast, honey and fruits. Fruity, spicy flavor with a strong yeast profile again. Honey and lemon are there with a bit of tartness from the Brett. The best of the batch today, but I think they need a new yeast strain.
