Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Small white head. Hazy amber body. Sugary perfumy herbal aroma with minty notes. Dry strawberry and vinegar taste with fruity oily alcohol notes. Mid-bodied. Dusty hot mouthfeel. Dry spicy herbal alcohol aftertaste with fruity notes. Not really very nice. (0.75l bottle shared by gr0ve.)

Deep golden/copper coloured body with a thin dense head. Aroma of malt, alcohol, spices and a touch of nice sweetness! Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a lot of malt, some light spices, a touch of nuts and a lot of sweetness, nice! Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity with a lot of focus on the sweetness and a touch of yeast. Overall, a nice beer - strong as hell, and definitely showing a lot of complexity! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from California in May 2009, sampled last year in August 2009.

Opens with explosive gushing to a fully cloudy ochre-orange beer. Strange nose with discreet spicing, grains (rye could well be the reason) and an aroma, that reminds me strangely of Mexican spicy food. This spicing returns with force in the taste, that makes me think of wet nachos. Some farmyard notes, but I wouldn’t hazard Brett. Elegant, discreet bitterness, and a medium body, with a lot of grist slickness. Impressive enough.

Good saison with a mild brett flavor and a bit too much sweetness. It’s an amber beer, a bit darker than most saisons, with an enormous head that looks like stiffly whipped cream. The beer smells of honey, floral hops and spice. The flavor is a tad on the sweet side for me. It’s quite good, though. The spicy rye gives the malt an interesting flavor. It’s a good saison from a good brewery.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94. Pours a hazy dark gold with a thick white head that laces beautifully. Aroma has strong floral and citrus notes with a bit of underlying funk. Flavor begins with a bit of citrus and light fruits, but finish is more funky and floral.

Deep copper huge foaming head. Aroma is a whole bunch of apple, a little hay, almost like a normandy cider. Flavor mixes apple with leathery funk, flowers, and an herbal bitterness in the finish. Fluffy carbonation on the palate.

(Bottle, 0.75 l, at Pikkulintu) Poured amber and hazy with quite large and white head. Aroma contained cow house, fruitiness, malts, sweetness and sourness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were spiciness, rye, malts, sourness, sweetness, fruitiness, citricness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sour, cirtic and bitter.

My first beer from this brewery. Hazy orange color, small white head. Sweetish peach aroma with light white pepper note. Foamy carbonation. Ginger, cinnamon, bretta and mint in the flavor. Very spicey Saison. Not very Belgian.
