Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Bottled. Hazy golden, small head. Tart lactic corander aroma. Dryish and juicy with medium body and vital, almostelastic mouthfeel. Juicy coriander and wet hay. A hugely drinkable, yet complex beer. Great stuff!

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a very cloudy orange-apricot color with a medium sized fluffy orange-white head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy with notes of orange, lemon and pear and undertones of yeast and pepper. The flavor was tart, tangy and a bit sour with a strong fruity presence of orange, peach and pear and a strong yeasty undertone with touches of must, oak and vanilla. The finish was long, sweetish and had notes of orange, wood and bread. Moderately full bodied. Exceptional.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 9 Oct 2010) Cloudy amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, spicy nose with notes of citrus, coriander, sweet gale, a touch of alcohol and slightly bretty yeast. Fruity, spicy taste with citrus, earthy hops and a hint of alcohol shining through in the finish. More than medium body, with some sweetness. Interesting beer, quite spicy and very nice. (7/4/8/4/15=3.8) Rerate: (Bottle, 18 Feb 2022). Pale amber colour with lasting, frothy, white head. Malty, spicy nose with hay, rye bread, lemon, herbs (coriander) and honey. Malty, spicy taste with notes of hay, rye bread, citrus, lemon, honey, coriander and a mild herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium body, mainly dry. A slight yeasty tartness coming through. Tasty, well balanced and fairly complex. Really well executed. Very nice.

Appearance: Pours hazy dark golden with a huge fluffy white head and great lacing left in the glass. The bottle was a slow gusher, even after half the bottle was poured
Aroma: Citrus, brett and peppery
Taste: Citrus, pepper, spices, full of brett with a dry finish

Bottle: Bright golden pour with a small creamy off-white head. Nose is fresh with florals, light hints of apple, and bits of rye. Sweet maltiness and light bits of fruit, again I’m getting apples, goes well with the dry and tangy flavor of the rye and modest florals. Crisp finish. Nice.

Bottle at Rattle n Hum. Pours hazy amber-gold with a small, white head. Aroma is malty with some spice and yeast notes. Flavor is mildly sweet with a little funk and sourness. Medium in body with lively carbonation. Finishes crisp, clean and lightly hoppy. Very nice.

Bottled. Hazy deep goldeny ambery colour, small, but steady foamy head. Aroma is fruits, zest, spices and some mild earthyness. Flavour is spices, earth, zest, somme earth and mild bready malts. Some mild wooden and grassy notes as well.

750 mL bottle courtesy of stefanje almost 2 years ago. Thanks! Pours a hazy amber color with floating particles. Large tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of brett, vegetal and nutty notes and peach and pear like fruits. The taste is caramel, stone fruits and vegetal note and mild brett. Bitter peppery rye notes in the finish. Medium-full bodied. Fairly nice.

Bottle at ChrisOs ’Blue Ridge Mountains Of Virginia’ tasting. Very hazy pale gold. Lasting thin white head. Rather a beautiful aroma. Touch sour, slight sour funkiness, got yeast just right. Decent hop on finish. Really good.
