Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Bottle, courtesy of me. Thank me very much. Shared with GT2 and nuplastikk. Pours hazy golden, small white head. Aroma has a decent amount of barnyard funk. Taste is malty lemons and bread, good body. Tasty.

Bottle @ home. Somewhat hazy, golden yellow-orange appearance with a sizable, off white head. Somewhat spicy, mild bretty tart, lemon-tangerine citrusy, toasty malty, Belgian yeasty aroma. Tangy, fairly spicy, peppery, Belgian yeasty, tangy, tart bretty, orange/tangerine/clementine citusy, a touch musty, toasty pale malty flavor with a bretty, slightly spicy finish. Nice brew.

Würziger, gelungen süß-hefiger Antrunk. Dabei steigt die Würzigkeit schnell an und stützt sich dabei auf die Süße, die Getreidigkeit integriert sich gut. Vollmundig, süffig, angenehme Malzigkeit. Dazu wenig bitter, eine gewisse Alkoholigkeit ist in positivem Maße vorhanden. Weiter stark hefig-würzig, nun brennt der Alkohol leicht in der Nase. Abgesehen davon ist das Bier perfekt abgestimmt und weich. Gefällt ohne Zweifel! 11/13/13/14/12/14

Bottle bought by Brill & Co and consumed on September 27. Pours hazy golden brown with a huge white head. Smell is malty and slightly sour with lemon and a distinct farmhouse (stable) smell. Taste is malty and spicy. It’s sweet, slightly sour and quite dry. There’s some citrus notes with lingonberries and spices like cloves and cinnamon. Aftertaste is dry and very pleasant. A great rather funky saison...

Pours orange with a white head. Aroma has notes of rye malts, spices and fruits. Taste is quite spicy and malty with floral notes and fruits. Finish is quite fruity and spicy. Okay, quite well balanced rye saison.

750 mL bottle shared with Carlson. Pours hazy gold with lots of floaty bits. The head is huge and white with lots of lacing. The aroma is heavy citrus, rye, cardamon, and earth. The flavor is funky and tart up front. Very sweet, with a little rye bitterness. The palate is medium, sticky and acidic. The aftertaste is long, sour, and bitter. Overall, this is a wonderfully complex saison.

Sample at the Ale Wine & Spirits Saison tasting on 07/28/2011. Pours a clear honey color with a medium white fluffy head that recedes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Slightly funky aroma with notes of fruit, earth and yeast. Medium body with a mildly tart fruit character and flavors of earthy malt, yeast, caramel and brett. The finish retains the funky character and leaves a spiced yeast aftertaste. Pretty solid all around.

Rerate, 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Slightly hazy deep golden colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of farmhouse kitchen and oaked apple cider, a hint of white wine vinegar. Medium sour flavour, oaky with lemon and apple cider vinegar, a hint of rye bread in the background. Dry finish. Original rating: 750 ml bottle at Øl & Mat-festivalen, Oslo. ABV is 8.5%. The beer starts pouring out of the bottle by itself. Cloudy amber colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of Belgian ale yeast, fruity and spicy notes. Fruity, spicy and yeasty flavour, quite nice. Very moderate hops.

750mL bottle, pours light pale golden with a big white head with lots of carbonation. Nose is cotton candy with yeast, spices (coriander). Flavour of cotton candy, spices (coriander), yeast, sweet corn and rye. Huge carbonation. Not bad, though the cotton candy / licorice notes detract for me.
