Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Bottle. Pours a light orange with a massive head... it dies down, but it’s slow going getting beer in glass. Aromas of white pepper, apple juice, lemon and something kind of earthy, kind of papery. Flavor is a nice mix of oranges and spice with a bit of honey sweetness and a fairly dry finish. This is a great summer sipper.

Big bottle provided by OleR for his garden tasting session, shared with OleR, Gr0ve, KnutAlbert, larsga and Skomakern. Foamy, white head. Near-clear, amber-red body. Fruity aroma with lighter notes of spices. Flavoured with mild, yeasty fruitiness, earthy malts and wheat. Semi-tart fruits to the ending. Foamy in the mouth. Refreshing and well balanced (Stovner, 25.05.2012).

Pours hazy deep golden with a huge white head. Aroma has notes of malt, dried fruits, citrus and peach. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long fruity, bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Clear orange beer, nice off-white to yellow head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit fruity, citrus, some bretta, hay, smells a bit infected, but not bad. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: bit fruity, flowery, distinct yeast character, quite some citrus, herbal bitterness and some bretta. Aftertaste: bitter, little sour, hay, quite some spices, cloves, some liquorish, bit of alcohol, bitter ending.

Lots and lots of foam when pouring. Bright red colour. Palate is too high on CO2. Aroma is rather typical to a Saison with wheat, some yeast and fruits. Flavour is somewhat stale with wheat, some tart citrus and earthy notes. Feels a bit like Fantôme.

750 ml bottle @ Patricks. Hazy orange body with a nice, big, foamy white head. Aroma gives a true farmhouse association, light malty, yeast, spicy, fruit and funky. Flavor is fruity, soft malt, pleasant bitterness, spices and hint of Brett. Lively carbonation. Medium body and fine aftertaste. A really nice and harmonic version of Saison, lovely!

Bottle. Almost clear, amber liquid with small white head. Aroma of funk, apples, wheat, noble hops and barnyard. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and very light sour. Quite funky taste. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Nice.

75 cl. bottle split between me, Jean & Michiel @ Delirium Hoppy Loft – (A) almost clear without the sediment amber/honey/gold with a fluffy white head – (S) lots of thick Belgian-style (not quite Belgian) yeast, there is a definite brett, barnyard funk character to this beer as well, spices incl. white pepper, bitter – (T) bitter, thick Belgian-style yeast almost ending into hefe-territory for a while there, getting subtle hints of banana, barnyard funk, clear touch bitter fruity esters, spices including white pepper, going into a herbal finish with a slight lingering booze touch afterwards – (B) I suppose it is the rye that I am feeling because the body has this typical thick yeast/rye thing going on, it is interesting, dry, crisp, serious but fitting carbonation – an interesting one, that is for sure

(From notes) Bottle, sample @ The Bruery. Aroma is very fruity, sweet & sour. Flavor is lightly sweet & lightly sour. Rather strong for a saison (I’m used to Belgian style). Not unlike De Molen’s Ton Sur Ton.
