With its classic brown color, reminiscent of a monk’s tunic, Leön has a nice thick and persistent, hazelnut-colored head. At first smell, the fruity scent of fruit cooked in a wood oven fills the nose. Then, coffee aromas blend with woody nuances, which turn into fuller notes of chocolate as the beer becomes warmer. The heat of its 9% alcohol content immediately hits the palate, with a touch of sour cherries in brandy. This is quickly replaced by the taste of roasted cereals, which gently fill the mouth with notes of chocolate, cocoa beans and coffee. A rather sweet beer with a strong body, complex but very enjoyable.

Bottle; nose of berries, caramel, with some chocolate and woodiness; lightly hazed brown with a small tan head; flavor of spicy, chocolate -covered, toffee boysenberries in a medium body with a slightly tart finish. Kind of underrated!

Bottle. Dark ruby mahogony beer with a nice tan head. Yeasty, lemony aroma. Tart lemony (though tartness doesn’t last), spicy flavor with some underlying caramel. Medium bodied. Lemony finish that fades to herbal tones with some honey. Easy to drink. Smooth mouthfeel. Hides alcohol well. It’s different and I can see people either not liking it, or digging it.

750ml bottle-pours a light tan head with dark brown color with particles. Aroma is musty dark fruit. Taste is musty, dark fruit, creamy, syrup. OK carbonation.

Reddish brown ale with a spicey pruney aroma, with light pears and lavender. Alcoholic malt with light orange peels. Tangy mouthfeel, with strong alcohol warmth. Medium bodied. A bit unbalanced. Enjoyed at YEHa!05 Christmas Party on Dec. 17th, 2005.

Dark brown colour with tan head. A little spicy malty aroma with some hints of yeast. Flavor of malt and some hints of yeast. Spicies in the flavor aswell. Weak hints of chocolate. Afruity and warming aftertaste.

(Bottle 75 cl) Apparently brewmaster Teo Musso Matterino is quite an excentric, but he sure does produce a range of excellent beers. Dark brown beer wit a ruby red tint, very hazy from the lack of filtration. Full, light brownish head. A full-bodied, very rich ale with loads of flavours. Suoerb. 241203

Bottle. Acidic aroma. Muddy brown colour, no head. First a hint of tobacco, then flavour turns malty/dark sugary. 5 2 6 3 13

2004 bottle sampled at the Belgian Beer Fest 11/04. Pours a murky brown, medium dark with tans and beiges swirling about. Modest tan head and an aroma of sweet chocolate, light raspberries, touch of alcohol and plenty of residual sugar. Flavor begins big and stays that way. It’s a full malt assault with plenty of red fruits interwoven with chocolate and caramel malt. Finish is lightly yeasty with alcohol and vinousness. I guess that must have been the "must of wine" but I don’t taste any roses. . . . Stronger and a bit more complex than the likes of other Belgian Christmas Dark Ales (affligem, delirium, etc). It didnt have a candied apple flavor and the yeast wasnt dominant, but the body stood up well. With the dry yeast, the acidic vinousness on the finish, it’s a strange ride all the way through, but I enjoyed it anyways.

The aroma is sweet, with notes of yeast and cloves. The color is brown and it has a beutiful though disappearing head. The flavor is sweet malty with alcohol prickling the tongue and notes of chocolate and wood. It ends on a dry and somewhat alcoholic note.
