With its classic brown color, reminiscent of a monk’s tunic, Leön has a nice thick and persistent, hazelnut-colored head. At first smell, the fruity scent of fruit cooked in a wood oven fills the nose. Then, coffee aromas blend with woody nuances, which turn into fuller notes of chocolate as the beer becomes warmer. The heat of its 9% alcohol content immediately hits the palate, with a touch of sour cherries in brandy. This is quickly replaced by the taste of roasted cereals, which gently fill the mouth with notes of chocolate, cocoa beans and coffee. A rather sweet beer with a strong body, complex but very enjoyable.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear ruby color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with light dry fruits and fruity ester is quite enjoyable. Taste is a well balanced mix between some caramel Belgian malt with balanced sweetness, dry fruits and light fruity ester in the finish. Body is about average with good carbonation with no signs of alcohol. Well done but additional body and spices could have benefited this beer.

75cl bottle. Thanks to Madsnp. Pours dark brown with a small creamy head and lacings. Sweet toffee, vinous and lots of spices. Warmth and full palate. Again very yeasty - and very tasty Baladin.

Pours deep ruby with a mid-sized head. Sweet and malty aroma with notes of bananas and tobacco. Flavour is sweet with notes of dark, ripe berries and chocolate. Dryish alcohol finish. One of the better Chimay Bleu-clones.

courtesy of a member of our tasting group. There some really amazing beers to come out of Italy, and this one is just another example. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is malty and has notes of dark fruits. Taste, malty / chocolate with some seasonal spices that characterize Christmas ales. Rich in flavors and original.

Medium beige head. Hazy opaque deep brown body with small visible particles and carbonation. Funky vinuous dried fruit aroma with roasty spicy honey notes. Dry-sweet roasty spicy honey taste with caramelly wooden notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel, slightly fizzy. Dryish honey and dried fruit aftertaste with cardamom and chocolate notes. Nice. Highly drinkable, harmonic, well balanced, and at the same time interesting. (0.75l bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

My favorite baladin beer to date. The aroma has Belgian-like malt and fruit, like an abbey ale. Fruit int he flavor as well, with more sweet malt, light spice, and yeast. This is like a malty abbey beer, full of thick, sweet malt. Very good. Dark brown in color.
