With its classic brown color, reminiscent of a monk’s tunic, Leön has a nice thick and persistent, hazelnut-colored head. At first smell, the fruity scent of fruit cooked in a wood oven fills the nose. Then, coffee aromas blend with woody nuances, which turn into fuller notes of chocolate as the beer becomes warmer. The heat of its 9% alcohol content immediately hits the palate, with a touch of sour cherries in brandy. This is quickly replaced by the taste of roasted cereals, which gently fill the mouth with notes of chocolate, cocoa beans and coffee. A rather sweet beer with a strong body, complex but very enjoyable.

Bottle. It pours hazy deep brown with a decent beige head. The nose is plum, grape skin, soft fruit, raisin, candy and brown sugar. The taste is brown sugar, caramel, candy, spice, warming alcohol, wood and plum skin with a sweet finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. A bit sweet and sticky for my liking. OK.

Flaske 0,75l fra Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Baladin Leön. Drukket på ølseminar i Tårnrommet 13 Nov 13. Skikkelig kork-kork. Her måtte det korketrekker til. Åpnet med et smell. Dyp mørkebrun. OK kremaktig skum. Uklar. Litt lacing. Aroma av rosiner. Smaken fyldig. Rosiner & svisker. Bra - men litt for søt.

From an enormous bottle shared at home on the day after Christmas. Pours a clear brownish amber, with lots of little floaters, and an ecru head. Fruity nose. Vinous and fruitcake flavors. Low carbonation. Smooth, sweet finish.

750ml corked bottle, named Leön du Baladin, picked up at Vinmonopolet Tromsø Langnes. Difficult to open, but after a while we got a pour revealing a dark brown, unclear body and a frothy, fawn-colourd head. Decent lacework to the glass. Candy sweet smell on a backbone of earthy malts. Candid fruity flavours mixed with caramel, raisin, and Christmas spices. Dry and sweet ending with warming alcohol. Well bodied. Nice Yuletide feel (shared with friends, Tromsø 13.11.2013).

0.75l waxed and corked bottle as Baladin Leon. This one pours a deep dark cloudy brown red body with a nice medium sized beige top that sticks neatly to the sides of the glass. Really spicy sweet on the nose. Lots of dark caramel sweetness, a little bit of cocoa nibs, tons of dark candied sugar and nut cake. I'm liking the complexity and the sweetness. Quite nice. It has a nice really light and almost cloudy oily mouthfeel with a small prickling average carbonation level. It's not as sweets the aroma, but it has a nice medium sweetness. Mexican chocolate, dark candied sugar, a little bit of Christmas spices and more of that nut cake. Cardamom and nutmeg before some gentle alcohol finished it off. Quite delicate actually. 23.05.2013
