With its classic brown color, reminiscent of a monk’s tunic, Leön has a nice thick and persistent, hazelnut-colored head. At first smell, the fruity scent of fruit cooked in a wood oven fills the nose. Then, coffee aromas blend with woody nuances, which turn into fuller notes of chocolate as the beer becomes warmer. The heat of its 9% alcohol content immediately hits the palate, with a touch of sour cherries in brandy. This is quickly replaced by the taste of roasted cereals, which gently fill the mouth with notes of chocolate, cocoa beans and coffee. A rather sweet beer with a strong body, complex but very enjoyable.

Bottle at home. Pours a hazy dark nut brown colour with a small light beige head. Aroma of leather, chocolate, dried fruit, spices, alcohol and nuts. The flavour is much alike and is pretty malty but not that complex. Has a slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. Has a decent balance but a bit one dimensional. Would maybe improve by aging.

750 ml bottle as Leon. Unclear brown/amber body with a decent off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, dry fruit and Belgium yeast. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, dry fruit, candy sugar, yeast and some warming alcohol. Fine body with a long and sweet aftertaste with hints of alcohol. Nice Belgium style strong ale, a bit more rustic than usually from Baladin.

Pours slightly hazy reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, milk chocolate, banana and caramel. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long fruity, caramel and light chocolate finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

75cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Fruity and malty aroma with ripe and dried dark fruits and some yeast influence. Very well balanced. Moderate sweet with a somewhat dry finish. Very nice beer!

Bottle, 75cl. As Leon. It pours an unclear, auburn body and dense, two-finger off-white head. The aroma has lots of dark dried fruits, especially raisins, and both caramel and alcohol notes. Lightly spiced and yeasty. Full body with pleasant carbonation, semi-dry. Raisins, some caramel and dark sugars, a little touch of spices and herbs and yeast. Perfect level of bitterness. The bitterness lasts for a while, but it never gets pushing. A really, really fine Belgian-style beer, will certainly have more of this. 130323

Tap at Open Baladin, Roma - 10/02/13. Light black with a big frothy tan head - this looks the bollocks ! Nose is dark malts, dark fruits, spice. Taste comprises dark fruits - dates, raisens, light chocolate, dark malts, light yeast notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation - smooth on the palate a grand wash down! Ok stuff and very drinkable - flatters to deceive. Looks and feels the part but I expected something a little more complex in nose and taste for a 9% beast!

Pours dark brown with a small head.Nose shows golden syrup, brown sugar, candi sugar, sultanas. Very sweet smelling.Very similar flavours. Lots of rich sweet notes. Bready malt, golden syrup, dried figs and soft booze.Needs more carbonation to help cut the overt sweetness.

Clear reddish brown, chestnut colour, some floaties, beige head. Rather light aroma, subtle, with tones of almond, malt, hops, milk chocolate, light madeira and candy sugar. Flavour of sweet caramel and malts, bitter almond notes, light madeira. Somewhat reminding of barleywine. Sweet finish with a light bitterness trying to uphold itself. Nice and subtle beer.
