With its classic brown color, reminiscent of a monk’s tunic, Leön has a nice thick and persistent, hazelnut-colored head. At first smell, the fruity scent of fruit cooked in a wood oven fills the nose. Then, coffee aromas blend with woody nuances, which turn into fuller notes of chocolate as the beer becomes warmer. The heat of its 9% alcohol content immediately hits the palate, with a touch of sour cherries in brandy. This is quickly replaced by the taste of roasted cereals, which gently fill the mouth with notes of chocolate, cocoa beans and coffee. A rather sweet beer with a strong body, complex but very enjoyable.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 – thx to Diabel – also came in one of those champagne/wine-like bottles which these Italian brewers keep procuring from somewhere – dark brown red with an off-white head – smells sweet with caramel, dark fruits & dark spices, slightly boozy – taste is caramel, dark malts & dark fruits, slightly toasted & bitter (some hops), touch syrupy, cocoa, mocha, spices & touch booze, medium bodied and carbonated

Veiled chestnut coloured beer; no head to speak off. Again a nose of coffee-milk; milkchocolate, velvet, cacaopowder. Bitterish almond flavour, superimposed on the chocolate/cacaoflavour. Chocolate goes on and on. I might get a little toffee, but from the other flavours suggested by the brewery, I’m a bit wary. Well bodied, alcoholwarming, slick. Grew on me, first impression is a bit underwhelming, but this needs a little time. I can’t help it but I get impressions of Christmas decoration - as on the bûche?

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Ariel. Clear brown color. Aroma of malt, caramel, molasses, dark fruits and a bit of sweet spices. Sweet malty fruity flavor with some yeast and spicy notes. Medium-bodied. Decent.

Provad för julen 2009 så flaskan var ett år gammal vilken gjort den gott. Till stil en stark belgisk ale. Sötman och alkoholen matchar varandra väl. Söta äpplen, honung och jästtoner.

Bottle, capped 750, from Oak Tree. Pours dark copper/amber with a transient beige head. Mild spice aroma. Very fruity. Some herb/spice. Seems to have red berry. Mysterious, but nice.

12/10/11/9/11/9
