Very nice well hopped aroma of caramel, pine needles, and oranges. Clear dark orange, thin head, some lacing. Lots of orange and orange peel. There’s a hint of clove that turns to nutmeg in the end. Not as potent as advertised, but the alcohol is detectable. A nice holiday beer.

On tap at Commercial Tap House on 12/25/2008. Clear copper body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet floral and citrus hops aroma with a bit of caramel. Sweet citrus and flroal hop flavor with some light pale malt and a firm bitter finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

12oz bottle...pours a nice honey color with a flat beige head...nice clean malted aroma...some hops with cinnamon and a smidge of caramel...first sip is a rush of piney hops backed up with cinnamon and nutmeg...a little caramel, and more hops...alcohol well hidden, and an average body

12 oz bottle-pours an off white ring for a head and copper color. Aroma is pine/citrus hops, secondary medium malt-toffee. Taste is herbal/pine/some citrus/spice hops, secondary sweet medium malt-toffee. They clash more than complement each other although still enjoyable. Mild carbonation. pours orange, white head. Aroma has the signature ST aroma, with notes of malts and roastiness. Taste, malty with red dark fruits such as cherries and prunes. Hoppy with some spices. Finish is lightly hoppy floral with fruity undertones. Overall, everything is failry well balanced making this one an easy drinker and good winter seasonal.

Courtesy of sebletitje. Thanks Sebastian. Pours deep to light copper with thin white head. The aroma is a mixed bag of crystal malts, grainy malts and fruity esters coming from cherries, sweet raisins and prunes. The taste has multiple levels of maltiness with roasted malts, graininess, moderately roasted malts and sweet malts. Much more malty than suggested in the nose. I get notes of apricots, raisins and cherries off in the background.

Bottle. Pour is a slightly brownish amber with a fluffy beige head and weak aromas. I can only pick up a touch of spice and malt. Flavor is much more developed… big and spicy, but unidirectional. Given the spiciness in the onset, I was initially thinking I missed something on first sip and there was some legitimate plot development. I don’t think I missed it… I just think it’s not there. Just a hint of a medicinal hops and a little bit of a nuttiness in the finish, but both of these are inconsistent and vary from sip to sip. Surprisingly mediocre for Southern Tier.
