Bottle. Pours dark amber with small off-white creamy head, roasted malt aroma, a bit burnt like roasted malt taste, thin body, longish finish. Not a great brew.

Appearance: DOB 7/11-2011. Dark redish brown. Clear. Some light tan head.
Aroma: Malt, fruit, caramel.
Taste: Nice darkish malt, smooth fruit, caramel, nice balance. Sweet. Warming, which is good on a cold, rainy Swiss "summer" day.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/30/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, biscuit, toffee, orange zest, floral, grass, light pine, light raisin, nuttiness, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, toffee, orange zest, floral, grass, pine, herbal, light raisin, nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy pine/floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, toffee, orange zest, floral, grass, herbal, light pine, nuttiness, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of dark/bready malt and earthy/piney hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a light creamy and moderately sticky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Old ale. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and earthy/piney hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle from Georgio’s Liqours, Billerica, MA at 7.0% ABV. Copper coloured with a thin cream head; rich aroma with some toffee and herbal hops; in the mouth there’s a good balance between the sweet caramel malts, and the strongly bitter hops; the two continue to fight through the lengthy finish, with the hops finally winning in the end. A very pleasant wintery IPA.

Tradesman, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours amber brown with beige head. Aroma is dark fruity, nutmeg, cinnamon, bread, and brown sugar. Taste is similar. Lightly hopped; somewhat spiced. Fortunately, this ain’t too sweet. Body is pretty light, especially for a purported old ale. Good beer though.

Clear dark amber beer, creamy irregular off-white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of caramel, bit sugary, sweet malts, some grain, hay. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: quite some chocolate, caramel, grains, bit sourish, bitter and hoppy as well, little sweet. Aftertaste: caramel, bit hoppy, grains, sourish touch, alcohol noticeable.

0.33l bottle. This is a near-clear dark golden one with a shockingly small and quickly sidesticking off-white top. On the nose it's a bit strange. Somewhat almost acidic with spices, dishwasher gloves, sweet caramelized green berries and that's about it. A bit strange. It has a average carbonation level and a soft oily mouthfeel. More slightly oaky-acidic flavors with tobacco, wood, some cigar, bitter marmalade, roasted pumpkin and a lasting bitterness. Ends with traces of natreen artificial sweetener, plastic and tea in the quite drymouthing finish and aftertaste. I know "old ale" is a wide genre, but was not expecting this. Still, an interesting winter/autumn ale. 23.12.2012
