Deep brown colour. Thin lacy head. Aroma has some sour red fruit, aniseed and caramel. Flavour has nice balance of sweetness and fruity acidity. Overall though it fades and is not rich or oily enough to leave a lingering aftertaste.

17/12/2011 33cl bottle @ Proeverij Winterbieren en kazen (Gentse Biervereniging) - BB: n/a (2011-717)

Clear dark brown beer, cola like, very aery thin head, dissipates completely. Aroma: pretty sour, some caramel, dried fruits, but mainly sour. MF: practically no carbon, thin to medium body. Taste: pretty sour start, some caramel notes, bit of mocha and toast, slightly hoppy. Tastes like an infection to me, and to other members from the Gentse Biervereniging as well.

33 cl. bottle @ Le Poechenellekelder –A: dark brown going to black with a tanned head – S: smells very sweet with sweet dark malts, sweet raisins and prunes, sweet spices, touch glühwein spices and booze – T: sweet caramel malts & spices, sweet dark fruits, sweet dark fruits, prunes, raisins and black grapes, brown sugar, hint of sweet chocolate but not milk chocolate, alcohol – B: creamy and malt heavy, caramel and brown sugar sweet – Another beer which I have never seen or heard about but one that kind of embodies to me all that is good about Belgian beers whilst illustrating what is typical about them or rather what should be there, at least that is from my point of view, haven’t tried many Christmas beers before nor have I gotten reallly the obsession with them but his is clearly a push into the right direction or at least more interest on my behalf

If I remember correctly I sampled this at Kerstbierfestival Essen, Belgium 2010. Slightly unclear dark brown color with a deep dark red glow comign through, beige head. Smells winey, caramel and a little bit alcohol. Taste sweet and dry. Kind of a mix of beer and wine. Sticky texture. Nice carbo, medium body.

Bottle bought in Brugge last Christmas. A dark brown almost black coloured pour with a decent beige head on top. Dark fruit, Belgian Christmas spice aroma. Tastes sweet, dark fruit, Belgian spice, malty, hint of banana. A great complex Belgian Chrstmas beer which I’ve had many times from bottle and on draught in the Beertje.
