This Japanese Classic Ale is a recreation of the first Japanese beer made in the Edo period. Please enjoy the Japanese taste, matured in cedar barrels like the old IPA style method from England. bottle-conditioned IPA. Chinook, Fuggles, and Kent Goldings hops are used.

14th August 2008. Hazy red amber beer. Initially a little malty but then blooms to a rich woody taste that I assume is the cedar casks gift to this beer. Not sweet and vanilla like oak but aromatic and strong. Dry woody finish. Off the beaten track!

11.2 ounce bottle. Pours a very hazy orange color. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet floral hop notes along with some earthinees. Caramel and candied fruits also. Taste is toasted malts with heavy earthy, herbal hops. Ginger comes through very strongly along with lots of pepper and other herbs. As the beer warms, lots of vanilla nd wood notes show up. Medium bodied. Very dry. Nice beer.

Bottle 330ml.Unclear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, rice, carame, old malt, pepper. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, and a moderate to heavy peppery finish. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20090320]

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Amber colour with lasting, frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel, orange peel and perfumy hints of cedar. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, orange and apricots. Fairly sweet with some earthy bitterness evolving throughout the finish. Nice and tasty beer with a perfumy touch from the cedar wood.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small white head. Hasa fruity malty hoppy aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter flavor with some hints of citrus. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter finish. with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Bottle at home 7.5% ...copper ... big white head ... sweet little spicy hop ... peppery ... little floral in nose ... big resins hop ... quite fruity with a bitter linger ... definit pepperyness .. quite nice.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr/Ungstrup. Hazy amber golden with floating impurities with a rough, off-white head. Spicy and rather enticing aroma. Medium body, notes of overripe fruit and some interesting and rather exciting spicy accents that must derive from the cedar casks. Dry and bitter finish. Pretty unique. 200309

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet with strong spicy notes as well as strong notes of cedarwood. The flavor is very spicy, cinnamon etc. As weel as strong notes of cedarwood, leading to a dry woody and spicy finish. Very Interesting.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small off-white head. Dry malty and slight malty aroma. Flavour has a distinct rice-malty base flavour with a light citric bitterness coming through. Dry malty and slight rice like. Ends dry.
