This Japanese Classic Ale is a recreation of the first Japanese beer made in the Edo period. Please enjoy the Japanese taste, matured in cedar barrels like the old IPA style method from England. bottle-conditioned IPA. Chinook, Fuggles, and Kent Goldings hops are used.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Poured a hazy orange with a dense white head. Quite a sweet aroma of caramel, tropical fruit and bready malt. Flavours of ripe mango and melon, toffee and some grassy hops. Cereal and butterscotch on the palate with some residual hop bitterness.

Bottle. Cloudy amber beer with a strong frothy white head. The aroma is mildly malty, and the flavour is very hoppy and malty at the finish. Overall a nice strongly hopped beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle. Cloudy amber/copper colour with small to average, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Caramel malty aroma with a nuttily touch, biscuit, hints of wood, herbal hoppy overtones with a touch of mint. Taste is caramel malty, hints of biscuit, some wood, dry to bitter hoppy overtones with a refreshing, peppery touch of mint. Nice.

Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours a dark amber with good white head. highly perfumed nose, almost like sandalwood - must be the cedar. Some malt discernable, but only just. Where are the hops? Taste - oh, there they are! Lovely big citrus notes. Medium bodied, really good finish. Ace beer.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours a dark amber with a nice white lacy head. The nose has cake mixture, something lightly sweet, some cedar of course. No sign of the IPA notes. The taste has more cake mixture and then something medicinal - the IPA notes come through more but the hop mixing with the cedar gives the antiseptic thing. The palate is medium bodied at least, with a creamy yet tangy texture and a lovely elegant finish. Overall, such a well balanced beer. What a great brewery.
