Hazy brown colour, huge beige-ish head which lasts for minutes; aroma of dried fruits, toffee, yeast, some herbal notes and slight alcoholic notes in the background; taste of malty sweetness, intensive fruitiness (plum, apricot), maybe some raisins, yeasty notes again, coriander and spicy-alcoholic aftertaste -cool beer!

Cloudy dark amber with a large creamy off white head. Nose is dominantly yeast with some spice, light caramel, honey, plums and dried fruit. Spice is more dominant in the taste with coriander and cloves which detracts from the nice background of caramel and raisin. Mouth is medium full and creamy with active carbonation. Much prefer Trois Pistoles.

Unibroue classic since 1992, this Belgian-style heavy ale boasts a complex and tempting aroma of chocolate, cocoa powder, gingerbread, banana, orange and cloves; sweet taste, deep maltiness, exciting spicy notes, warming alcohol finish. Very well-made, very satisfying and better than many actual Belgian examples of the style.

330 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, dark amber colour with a large, long lasting, off-white head. Yeasty, fruit aroma with caramel malt. Sweet flavour with notes of fruit, cinnamon, yeast, caramel malt and a dry, warming, alcohol finish. Medium body with oily texture and soft carbonation.

This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown to hazy black color with a soft gentle rolling leveling half fingered white foamy head that dissipates at a nice pace. The lacing that is there speckles the sides nicely.
The smell had a rich sort of dark chocolate to raisins and adds in a nice rich yeasty/breadiness to an herbal yet spicy complexity.
The taste was spicy and sweet with a distinctive yeasty raisin-like quality hitting the taste buds. The aftertaste was sweet and spicy and lets a nice sharp spicy sweet finish.
On the palate, it sits about a medium almost leaning closer to the heavier sort of side. The carbonation is good for the style which comes across not too harsh but just enough to make it feel good across my mouth and tongue.
Overall, in my opinion, this was a wonderful offering from Unibroue for the Belgian Strong ale category.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein leicht trübes rötlichbraunes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig fruchtig, blumig, würzig. Geschmack stark malzig, fruchtig, Gewürze, blumig.

Taste starts with sweet and rich malt, follows by alcohol and fruity freshness, warming and spicy mouthfeel, while finish is light bitter. Full body, thick texture and average natural carbonation in palate. Damn good...
